Sad that we've lost another one.
We wish the Barber family courage in their loss.

Sad deal. The guy that was supposed to be the Pilots ace but never was. Had a decent career though.

He was a great TTMer as well. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

Steve peaked as a Baltimore Oriole at a very young age. Injuries shortened his career as a starter - injuries that began piling up after the age of about 25 or so. Barber was the ace of the Oriole staff in the early-mid 60's. By 1969, as a Seattle Pilot, his ability to throw 200+ innings a season was gone. He survived a few years as a spot-starter reliever.
I remember his early years in Baltimore. But when Baltimore, an excellent team for most of the 60's, finally won the pennant in 1966, Steve was out with an injury and unable to participate in the World Series that season. If I remember right he was 10-2 at the All-Star break and on pace for his second 20 win season. But that was when the ailments began and he pitched very little the rest of the season.
