Sorry for the delay, guys. I've decided to go with George Herman Ruth (over Spaceman Bill Lee) as my #1 pick. I would actually like to use his 1920 season for the sim, if you please.
I agree that both draft threads should probably be stuck to the top.

yeah... we cant use '81 or '80... not enough games in '81 and '80 was his 2nd best WARP1 year ('74 is his best)... and i dont believe '86 was as good... yes higher AVG but '77 beat '86 in OBP and SLG and '77 was in his prime at age 27 so he gave you some steals and better defense

The thing is that Joe wasn't just a table setter in '76. He led the league in SLG with .576 in a really low offensive year, with that awesome on-base ability as well had a 187 OPS+, added 60 steals, and was a Gold Glove fielder at a key defensive position!!!!! I think it's a little high, but not as much as you think. He's about tied for the best hitting with one other 3B, but being a switch hitter helps. I also wanted to make sure I got big production from the positions that I think aren't as deep in production.
I could have chosen a corner OF or 1Bman with more production, but there's so many that produce highly at those positions, I know I can get them in a later round.

Okay, sorry, I was thinking wrong I guess.

Minstrel
02-11-2007, 11:28 AM
So, does Kyle's clock go til 3 central?
It goes until 4 PST, or 5 CST. This is why I preferred a flat 10-12 hour window, with no "time outs" for night times.
Others seemed to prefer a shorter time window, but stopping during the night.
Should we change the rule to, say, a 12 hour window with no global stoppages? In this case, Kyle would have had to pick prior to 3 PM EST, instead of having until 7 PM under the current rules.
If we change rules, it'll affect just this draft (the NL can institute it too if they like) and start next round. Just chime in if you like the idea or if you don't. No response will be assumed to be indifference.

Ok... I guess I'll make Kyle pick with Kid Nichols... 1897. When he sent me his list, I thought it was just for his last round when he selected Walsh. I didn't really want to make this pick cuz he might want someone else. He gave me Koufax and Walsh then Nichols was there in case the other 2 was picked. That's the only list he gave me. My bad for holding this draft for as long as it been, hopefully Kyle will be ok with this pick. Now if it goes to him next round, I can't make it cuz he only gave me 3 picks and said that I would probably only have to make one pick and he beat me to it last round.

Great hitting second baseman are running out. After the top tier of Hornsby, Collins, Morgan and Lajoie went, I felt comfortable that I'd get one of the second tier: Robinson, Gehringer, Biggio or Alomar. Then Biggio, Gehringer and Robinson went bang-bang-bang! ;)
Still a few quality second-sackers to be had, though. No one should end up with Joey Cora.

Not a huge fan of the player, but he did have some great seasons.

Probably. Might as well give it a shot though. We arent exactly speeding through this way either. Are you available?

I think so. It depends. I'm probably going to try to get together with my friends Thurs evening, because I'm preparing for a MTG tournament. However, I might be able to participate from their place, or IM someone my pick, or we might have the round before I go over there. I'll figure something out.

Always keep two blue available for the counterspell. Thank me later.

There IS no good deck theme that doesn't include blue, honestly. ;)
Well, I actually haven't played the game for about a decade (wow), so I may be out of touch. When I checked out, Fallen Empires was the latest expansion, IIRC.

Brings back good memories..... I last played two or three years ago, and I loved it for a while. Then the Fifth Dawn expansion came out, and I hated it, and I haven't played since going to a booster draft tournament a couple years ago. The best deck I ever made was a little 45-card burn/goblin deck. Never lost me a game, even when I played a blue deck.
BTW, I'd be up for a Thursday-night lightning round. Shall we say 8 EST?

What is this stuff? Fantasy games are definitely not something I'm interested in, but I have absolutley no idea about "Magic the Gathering". Never even heard of it. Is it a card game?

It's a card game. In a nutshell you build up your resources each turn, some automatically and some not, and try to devastate your opponent's resources until he or she runs out of life points (or the entire deck). Open physical combat is generally used via creatures, but there are gobs of non-creature cards that can steer combat and the game. The more land resources you have, the better spells you can play.
At its simplest you can have a fun war of say Elves and Zombies, mostly combat, for under $10 (which gets both decks). It can get much more expensive though... but the well-designed expensive cards have creativity and personality with their power. Or it's just power and people want to win really badly and the cards are rare.

My head is about to explode.
Actually, when I was in the 6th grade a bunch of kids in my class were playing and I asked what it was and they tried their best to show me. I played one game and whooped the guy whose cards they were. I then retired undefeated.

Recently, they've made a lot of better sets. A few sets ago they released Ravnica block - I've heard of someone buying CASES of boxes, so he'd be able to draft it whenever he wants.... The latest block is Time Spiral, with the base set's theme being the past, the second's being the present, and the third (so far unreleased set) being the future. I have no clue how the heck they're going to do the future

If it starts at 8 (5 your time), then it'll probably end around 9 or 10 (6 or 7).
