DENVER -- The Rockies avoided arbitration with Josh Fogg by signing the right-hander to a one-year, $3.625 million contract on Friday.
Fogg, 30, finished second on the Rockies in wins in 2006, going 11-9 with a 5.49 ERA in 31 games, all starts. He became one of 14 National League pitchers to win 10 or more games in each of the last four seasons.
The agreement is halfway between the $3 million the Rockies offered and the $4.25 million Fogg sought via the arbitration process.
The Rockies had previously reached agreements with their other arbitration-eligible players. They reached a two-year deal worth $4 million with second baseman Jamey Carroll and signed one-year deals with left fielder Matt Holliday ($4.4 million), right-handed starting pitcher Rodrigo Lopez ($4.325 million plus incentives based on innings pitched), lefty reliever Jeremy Affeldt ($1.25 million) and center fielder Cory Sullivan ($900,000).
Fogg enters a competitive situation for a spot in the 2007 rotation. The Rockies return four of their five starters from last year -- righty Aaron Cook, lefty Jeff Francis and righty Byung-Hyun Kim, in addition to Fogg.
But the Rockies have added Lopez in a trade with the Orioles, obtained right-handers Jason Hirsh, a top prospect, and Taylor Buchholz in a trade with the Astros, and signed right-hander Brian Lawrence, who missed last season because of shoulder surgery but was a solid pitcher for the Padres from 2001-05.

Fogg signed to avoid an arbitration hearing, for your information.
EDIT: Someone change the title, please, I meant Josh Fogg resigned. *hits his head*
