Here is the thread in which we will announce signings and rumours:
4 teams have submitted offers for ace Roy Oswalt.
It is rumoured the Mets and the Nationals are the leading contenders to acquire Oswalt. No word yet on the other two teams but sources indicate their offers are well below those of the Mets and Nats.
Mike O'Connor sought by the 3 brothers
The 3 brothers of the BBFTG (Johnny Seven, MIL; Dan, BAL and big_papi BOS) are hunting Mike O'Connor.
It should be a heated battel till the end.
Otsuka overwelmed with offer
An unnamed team has reportedly offered a 2-year 16 million contract to Akinori Otsuka. A very reliable source has indicated Otsuka went insane when he heard about this offer from his agent.
And please, if you are an unnamed team, DO NOT MENTION who YOU ARE!
Otherwise, it's not fun to have these anymore. :)
SIGNINGS:
Akinori Otsuka agrees to terms on a 2-year/16 M $ contract with the Minnesota Twins.

Leaks:
Some things our sources have picked up...
Otsuka signs: It's nearly official, Akinori Otsuka has signed a 2-year deal worth 16 million $ with the Minnesota Twins, waiting for confirmation from JF7 or Francoeurstein :D
Oswalt race heats up: There are now reportedly 6 teams hunting down Oswalt with only 2 teams with the edge, the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals both have submitted offers that would pay Oswalt at least 16 million $ per season, the Astros have also inquired about bringing Oswalt back, but that is now unlikely.
Rodney was on the verge, but backs out: Fernando Rodney received 3 offers, the New York Mets, the Cleveland Indians and the Houston Astros have all offered Rodney a contract. Rodney was about to ok the Mets deal but then realised that Cleveland had made a better offer, reportedly worth 0,5 million more and 1 more season. Rodney has not yet made up his mind.
Marte nears Indians: The Indians are very close to signing Damaso Marte, the Indians and the Padres were the only two teams that offered the 34-year old a contract and he'll likely pitch for Cleveland next season.
Lyle Overbay seeks a longer contract: Overbay received a reported 2-year contract, worth 5 million per season but after much deliberation, stopped considering it. My source has told me that Overbay would prefer a 3-year contract paying him 7 million per season.
Padres and Marlins look at Harang: From a source on the west coast, the Marlins and Padres are the two teams looking long and hard at Aaron Harang. Both teams have offered Harang a chance to join their rotation, Harang reportedly declined to comment on the situation. The Washington Nationals also, according to another one of my sources, had offered an incredibly incentive-laden deal to Harang which would see him earn nearly 8.5 million next season, however, the big spending team withdrew and focused on Roy Oswalt.
Wiggington a lock to sign: If anyone can top 3-year 13 million offered to Wiggington, call the police, he's nearing Minnesota.
Encarnacion puzzled by offer: Free agent 3B Edwin Encarnacion was puzzled when he picked up the phone, listened to his messages and heard that the Mets offered him a contract. Encarnacion was very happy and was about to sign until, he wanted his agent to ensure he would start next season. The agent reportedly told Encarnacion: "Only if you do well in ST".
No word yet on how Encarnacion will handle this.

Oswalt race narrowed down: Nationals pull out:
The Washington Nationals have reportedly put an end to an outrageous bidding spree for star pitcher Roy Oswalt. Oswalt was to make a decision to play for either New York or Washington until the Astros latest offer made GM wilkerson_rulz-06 furious ''It's ridiculous, it really is, said wilk, the offers are through the roof! ''
That offer was reportedly 19.7 million per season for the Astros.
The Nationals wisely backed out, it's not time to see if the Mets will do the same...

lol, no it wasnt, my 1st offer was higher than yours anyways, what do you mean latest, I had 17.3 mil for the longest time.
and the new one isnt 19.7 that I pmed EB.
it's like 18.7 a year for 5 years, then a 19.1 team opt for the next.

Mike MacDougal agrees to terms with San Diego: 2 years $6 million.
Ty Wigginton agrees to terms with Minnesota: 3 years $13 million.
Mike O'Connor agrees to terms with Milwaukee: 4 years $16 million.
Alex Gonzalez agrees to terms with New York (Mets): 3 years $10 million.

It has been reported that Ace pitcher Roy Oswalt has been offered a 6-year deal, reportedly worth $19 - $22 million. He is seriously considering signing, and will announce his decision within the next few days.
In response to the demand for his services, Fernando Rodney has issued a statement: "I am flattered by the demand that is there for my services. However, I would like to have an opportunity to fill a closer's role this upcoming season."
JordanDL3891
02-07-2007, 02:01 PM
I can not offer Fernando a closer role, I will offer him a setup role though, I need the extra reliver, and would be honored to add Fernando to my list of relivers.
I can offer a setup role and a chance to play on a winning team, the 2nd half of the season, my team won so many games, that if they did the same thing the 1st half, they would of won 94 in total, so rodney can trust he is on one of the top teams if he Joins the Astros.
and because of all the dealing problems we have had, some players have not been interested in signing with us, I am willing to give Rodney a 1 year no trade clause if he wants.
wilkerson_rulz-06
02-07-2007, 05:11 PM
Then Fernando will sign on with someone who will offer him a closer role.

02-07-2007, 05:33 PM
Just my opinion and I guess it's good for me, but i don't see how Rodney needs to be a closer, when MacDougal who is much more proven doesn't. :noidea

After all of that, I'm "biased".
We decided this way back before your offer, when the Mets offered and we rejected.
Oh, and for you info, because of you I backed out for Oswalt and I did not decide where he'd go either.
Don't go around saying things you can't validly justify.

some ones getting a little temper, I never said it was you.
I don't care that you pulled out of the oswalt offer, YL and I drove the price up, why would I be unhappy that I forced a team to pull out, now you will just go after Schmidt and save money, a wise choice.

lol, yea np. but would you of considered of toping my 1st offer if you ever heard it earlier than you did? (17.3 mil??) and I think YL has the top offer right now because I read between 19 and 23 mil a year, and mine was in the 18's, so I bet YL will get oswalt.
I guess I still have a good Rotation, I still have a hole though, maybe Hirsh can fill it, I have Vazquez - Bonderman - Kazmir - Chacin - Hirsh right now. Now I just need another reliver to be setup along side Wheeler, Hopefully Rodney!
I hope he takes my 4.2 a year.
If I have cap room, why don't I use it? thats what I see vs oswalt, doesn't matter what the price is, as long as I have him.

ok, its set in stone what he is, but FYI, in real life, players 99.9% of the time go for the money. they will sometimes go for the lower price if it is somthing they want like what team or position (as closer) but if the other deal is higher by like a million! they are more interested in that extra mil! and I offered over a million more. Just thought you would like to know, trying to keep the game realistic and all.

yes I agree, but not when a million bucks are in play. FYI, Rodney has never succeded as a closer in MLB. But it doesn't matter, he is already signed, and I have moved my interested to another reliver (who oddly isn't on the FA list we have, but he is an FA I do belive)

Otsuka would be making eight million dollars a year to set up. He'd take that any day.
BTW, Jordan, Rodney had basically signed with Cleveland once their offer came in. Blame it on me if you want, since it was my idea to have him sign the deal where he would close.
And as an O's fan, I know all too well that players don't always go for the money. Paul Konerko turned down 5M more from Baltimore to go to Chicago.

Oswalt Returns to Houston
After lengthy negotiations with many different clubs, Roy Oswalt has decided to return to Houston to play for the Astros, who traded him to Detroit in midseason. Oswalt was then inexplicably not re-signed, and became a free agent. He was reportedly offered contracts by six different teams, the Astros, Marlins, Twins, Mets, Nationals, and Orioles. The Orioles were believed to have offered Oswalt a six-year, 120 million dollar deal to come to Baltimore. However, shortly thereafter, Houston offered six years and 123.6 million dollars, as well as a three-year no-trade clause. Oswalt's agent EB "It was the no-trade clause that did it. Roy was very upset at being traded for Mike Maroth, and felt as if Houston had insulted him. He wanted assurance that this would not happen again, and Houston gave him that. The money didn't hurt either."

see, how would we know what they want. how would i know that rodney wanted to close or that schmidt wanted to play for a contender(but i mean doesnt everyone) and oswalt mabe wanted stability with you because you traded him half way through the season but he might of wanted different things with other teams. i hope you understand where im at.

I see what you're saying. But do you want us to write up a one page report on each player? We only have so much time. Generally speaking, it's about the money. But there are other factors that are taken into consideration.
We'll try to make up more complex wants and needs, if that's what you guys want.

what im really just trying to say is if some players are going to sign for certain reasons shouldnt we know what it is and how to fix it. also how do i know if my offer is good enough. who is the leading "bidder".
please dont write a page about the players. we dont need it to be more complex and confusing and put more load on the agents backs. we just need to know how to sign players, mabe a detail like kings said to help sign players if that makes any sense.

Endy will be a great help on the Astros Defence in the outfield. I plan on having him be my backup OF to Wily Mo Pena, Carl Crawford & Vernon Wells. (I also have Mitch Einertson who will battle with Brandon Sing to start at 1B for the 07 season. Mitch can also play the OF.)

Alright. Here goes. These are confirmed.
The Mets have signed Cliff Politte a 2 year contract worth $4.6 million, with a $2.3 million club option for 2009.
The Mets have signed Tad Iguchi to a 3 year $12 million contract.
The Giants have signed Tom Gorzelanny to a 3 year $6 million contract.
These are rumors. Some of these guys are really close to signing (aka tomorrow):
Marcus Thames is rumored to be looking at signing a deal worth a total of $4 million.
Keith Foulke is close to signing a $15 million deal.
Preston Wilson has been offered a contract, and looks like he is ready to sign any day now. Looking for confirmation from one of his agents.
Scott Posednik is close to signing a rather large deal...
Sean Casey is unsure over a contract offered to him. May sign, may not.
Gary Sheffield is apparently looking for a one year $10 million contract.
Roger Clemens has not had any serious offers recently.
If you want any info on offers you've made, PM me or EB or Wilk.
That's all for now!

How? When someone sends a bid on a free agent they usually do not call them by their nickname, they send the full name. Those mistakes usually aren't lethal.
