Today, January 31st, OUR JACKIE would have been 88 years old. Little could anyone have know when he was born in 1919, what he and his life's purpose would add to this Country and to Baseball.
Let US remember OUR JACKIE today, perhaps with some wonderful stories and rememberances of him as one of OUR BROOKLYN DODGERS!

I'll cherish the photo I had taken with you at Ebbets Field for as long as I live.
Happy Birthday to a great Dodger.

Thursday, June 2, 1949 Ebbets Field Brooklyn: Jackie Robinson, heroic star of the Brooklyn Dodgers, successfully steals home in a 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Roy Campanella has jumped out of the way and has "hit the dirt". The Cardinal catcher is none other than Joe Garagiola. (Corbis)

What is with the bizarre Dodger uniforms? I have never seen that variation.

Here is a team photo of the 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers with those uniforms on. This is also from Corbis.

Those are the ugliest jerseys I've ever seen. I don't knwo why but I've never liked them. Were they a big hit? I mean several other teams adapted that style.

I guess it was thought the stripes added "flair"! The St. Louis Browns had that style for several years.

They were the night time silks worn only during night games and I think they only used them one or two years.

As I was doing my daily Dodger research I came to an interesting discovery. Jackie's last games as a Dodger were not played in Brooklyn, or even the United States! Jackie was part of the 1956 trip to Japan and wore the Dodger flannel for the last time there. You can see Jackie in this cool color photo of the boys.

Wednesday, August 13, 1952 Ebbets Field Brooklyn: King Faisal of Iraq visited the U.S. in 1952. Here in the Brooklyn Dodgers locker room, the potentate gets to visit a man who truly symbolizes what is right about the U.S.-Jackie Robinson. (Corbis)
