Been having a metal vs wood discussion on another board. The same old arguments surfaced, but what it boils down to is, there’s a lot of folks who prefer the wood game. In fact, its not really the wood that so many want, but the wood performance.

There’s no doubt, or at least there isn’t in my mind, the synthetic bat manufacturers could make bats that perform almost exactly the same way wood does, and I don’t mean for just one very precise set of variables. Perhaps our friend who works for LS can comment in more detail.

Personally, I don’t like synthetic bats. But I’m afraid that without some number much more significant than just myself willing to make a sacrifice like not allowing their child to use them, or if safety’s an issue, not allowing their child to pitch against them, what can be done, I don’t see any change coming.

There are some entities that are outlawing them, but its such a rare thing, I don’t know that they will cause much change any time soon. But I was wondering. Perhaps if the entities making such enormous amounts of money off of tournaments, like USSSA, or showcases like Perfect Game, refused to put on events using metal, if things might not change.

Those folks and others already put on wood bat events, so why not go all the way and make them all wood? Would they lose so much business it wouldn’t work?

Thoughts?
