How many of you have ever been to Kauffman Stadium?
What do you think about it?

I personally think that it is one of the most unappreciated parks.

I know that I'm looking forward to going in the next 1-3 years. I think it's a really cool looking park, it's in my top 5 of waiting to sees.

Good sightlines, clean, inexpensive, compared to other ballparks. However, the first rule of real estate is location, location, location...I-70 & I-435 is an excellent location for a truck stop, but there's no bars, restaraunts that are really within walking distance for baseball fans to hang out in, before or after the game. The fun spots in KC are about .30 minutes away. the fountains in the outfield are overrated, you watch them once or twice, think "that's nice" then you don't pat any attention to them. There is acres and acres of parking, but after you pay, the attendants will direct you all over the damn place and have you driving for 10 minutes in a maze before directing you to a spot.
I love Arrowhead though, my favorite NFL stadium.

The fact that the stadium itself has withstood corporate attempts to name it doesn't mean that we won't be remembering Fritos Brett, Norelco Shave Aikens and little Yahoo Patek as legends who've played there. I just think Kansas City is a place where the revolution hasn't really sunk in yet. Bulldoze the place.

It's an underrated ballpark for sure. The overall design of it is pretty unique. The only thing that really isn't unique are the ballpark dimensions, but looking at how the seats are behind the plate and looking at all the grass past the outfield, it makes for a very respectable atmosphere and experience.
Don't forget those fountains, too!

Never been there, but remember watching TV games when it was still turf!

That would be a drawback. My favorite stadiums are usually in a downtown location, or pretty close to downtown.

I've only been to it a few hundred times. I think it is definitely in the upper 50% of all the parks despite its age. Not a big proponent of the down town location. Last thing we need is guys going to the game, drinking beer, and then heading to a bar to drink more.

Beautiful park, reminds me a bit of Dodger Stadium in its layout and sightlines. A bit like the Oakland park, in terms of being in the middle of nowhere, but Kauffman Stadium, unlike Oakland, is well worth the trek.

Have you ever been to the park because i dont think you know what your talking about. It is a pretty nice stadium and it is a great atmosphere. And there has been talk about bulldozing the place and build a new one downtown, but people know there is nothing wrong with the stadium.

I think if you've never been to kauffman stadium then you have no right to talk. It is one of the best stadiums i think that their is in the MLB. Im right with KCFAN11 on what he said, "Have you ever been to the park because i dont think you know what your talking about. It is a pretty nice stadium and it is a great atmosphere. thank you for this topic. :)
i am flying over from germany in late may to see one or two games in KC. so maybe you local guys could help me out with my questions:
1. is there are big difference between night and day games in kauffmann stadium? if yes, which gametime do you prefer?
2. should i try to get the tickets long before via mlb.com or ticketmaster (don't know yet which internet-service is the right one for the royals; have to find out first) and get them at the willcall-box. or do you think it is pretty easy to get just to the stadium and buy the tix there?
speaking about the tix: which is a nice seat in kauffmann stadium? normally i prefer to sit a lil bit back (also upper deck) because i think i have got a much better overview. but since i sat right behind homeplate in u.s. cellular field i am not sure anymore.
3. how long does it take me driving over from st. louis to kansas city (by car)?
thank for help - greetings from germany,
kaeptn

Kauffman looks like it would be a really great ballpark to go to. Its on my top 5 want to see a game at. I think the Royals could be competative this year....or at least wont loose over a hundred again. I remmeber one of my predictions last year, I said that Brandon Webb would have a breakout season for the diamondbacks, with no "other ace" (schilling, vasquez, johnson) overshadowing him.... I was right about that one :P

1.) I prefer the night games because i like the atmosphere more but the day games are more of a family atmosphere. So i prefer the night games also because it feels good outside.(but the weather changes alot in Kansas City)
2.) You can almost always walk up and get tickets unless they are playing the Yankees, Cardinals, or Red Sox. If you want close tickets for a weekend game i would definitly try to get them early. The best seats in my opinion are on the top because of the nice view but the bottom are pretty good too. If you are going to get the tickets online buy them at www.kcroyals.com and tell them to put them on will call.
3.) It usually takes about 4 hours from ST. Louis to KC unless you hit traffic or Road Construction.

My favorite parks tend to be the ones in a downtown location, but I still want to see a game at Kaufman Stadium someday. Looks like a great stadium to take in a baseball game! :)

@KCFAN11:
thanks for your help so far. :)
i will be there on may 28th. it is a monday-game against the orioles scheduled for 6:10pm. maybe i am thinking about leaving st. louis in time to get the chance to see the mariners playing the royals the sunday before (may, 27th). the game is - according to the schedule - at 1:05pm - that's why i was asking how long it would take me to drive from stl to kc; just to know when i should leave there to be right in time.
anyway. i will try to get the tix over the official site with a notice to leave them at the willcall box for me.
looking forward to see kaufmann stadium "in person". :)

I think when they do the renivations in a year or two they are going put seats out there over the water. and do may more things around the back of the stadium.

What year did Kaufman Stadium go from artificial turf to natural grass anyway? I can't remember. That is such a huge improvemnt, in my mind it makes all the difference in the world.

I've always liked the design of the seating. The fact there is only grass beyond the wall is cool, and the way that the stands kind of "hug" the field:

I've always enjoyed watching the Jays games when they play in KC. A neat, different looking park.
Wow, this shot (http://www.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=39.049352,-94.48019&spn=0.015598,0.028925&t=k&om=1)really shows that there are acres of parking!!!

I'm on the other side of Missouri, so I may be visiting there this year. I always liked the water fountains in the outfield, and other features. Sure it's no Busch Stadium, but it has significantally changed since the photo. The only problem? People rarely show up except on Opening Day, so it's 9,000~16,000 people that show up most games, with the occasional >20,000 or even a sell out crowd. I really want to see this stadium...
