"Bing" Devine, a fine baseball mind, largely responsible for building the St. Louis squads that won the World Series in 1964 and 1967 and the 1968 National League pennant, passed away today at age 90 after a brief hospitalization. He served as GM of the Cardinals from 1957-1964 and again in 1967-68. He also served as GM of the New York Mets.

He also served as GM of the Rochester Red Wings (IL, then a Cardinals farm team) from 1950-1956. He was President of the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals from 1981-1986 before returning to the baseball Cardinals as a special assitant to the GM, a position he held until his death.

RIP.

Seems like Bing built two world series teams and got fired just prior to the season in which those teams made it to the Big Dance.
