Hey, everyone:
I'm looking for some pre-season training help. I'm 47, still playing softball, spending most of my time behind the plate. Right now, I'm rehabbing my right rotator cuff, and--for cardio--hitting the elipitical machine daily (variable 30 min workouts at this time). I'm looking to drop some weight (like most guys my age, I'm carrying extra baggage that needs to go), improve conditioning, and put a little extra pop in my bat (I'm mostly an opposite field, short line drive hitter). Any suggestions appreciated.

These are just some generic things, without really having more details about your situation. Any additional info you can give about your diet and training experience will be helpful. Some basic concepts:

For conditioning and fat loss, I recommend HIIT -High Intensity Interval Training.

Nutrition is just important and sometimes even more important than your training.

Adding a strength training routine will not only make you stronger, but it will make you look better, feel better, improve athletic performance, and help a great deal with fat loss.

Dynamic movements, explosive/power lifts, core/rotational work, plyometrics, and sprint training are some of the best techniques to improve athletic performance AND get in shape!
