considering that boston had the 1999 all-star game, i think it's going to be awhile. mlb hasn't done a very fair job in spreading the all-star game around-in 09 it will be 43 years since stl last hosted the game. in that time pittsburgh has hosted it three times, houston three times, chicago (both teams combined) three times, and numerous teams twice.

Anaheim has had 2, 1967 and 1989. Los Angeles has hosted one, 1980.

Wow, 43 years. I thought the 34-year wait in Detroit was bad. Considering how great Cardinal fans have been through the years (it's more than their fans saying they're the best) it is way, way overdue.

26 years for the second biggest market in the country? LA is due for one this decade.

who has gone the longest without an all-star game (after, i assume, stl)? everybody should get a turn. rotate the game among all the teams equally, without any consideration for new stadiums, size of the market, favorites, etc. how hard is that to do? if bud needs a chart or something to keep track of this, i'm sure one of his underlings can throw something together for him. i don't have anything against houston or pittsburgh or any of the cities in the major leagues but how does any city get the game three times before another city gets it once?

They've done a horrible job. The last time the All-star game was in Boston before '99 was 1961! 38 years! 71 years and the All-star game has been held in Boston only 3 times.

They will host this year's game. They hosted already twice before in 1961 and in 1984, in 1961 a pitcher got blown by the wind in that game.

I know Boston just held it in '99, but you could make a very strong case for a Boston ASG in 2012. It's the 100th anniversary of America's oldest and most beloved ballpark as well as the scheduled end of the improvements being made there.
Lately, at least, they have been picking the stadiums that are either new, or like in yankee stadium's sake, on their last year. I don't think a 100 year anniversary is out of line.

KC hosted the All Star Game twice, in 1960 when the A's where in town, and in 1973 where the Royals are.

It also depends on what park they're playing, Seattle hosted the All Star Game in 1979, the team's 3rd season of existence, and Colorado hosted in 1998, in their 6th season.

how is it possible that the mets haven't hosted an all-star game since 1964? i just don't understand how mlb can muck up something that's so simple. there are 30 teams in the major leagues. you get the all-star game once every 30 years. take every team that hasn't hosted an all-star game in the last 30 years and give them a game. then start from scratch: every team gets the game once every 30 years, alternating al and nl. the problem with there being more nl teams then al teams should be solved by expansion before the first cycle ends.

kc had an all-star game in 73 so, according to mlb logic, the good people of kansas city will have to wait until 2017 or so until they get another one. or they could build a new stadium and get it sooner. :grouchy

And going by that logic is by all means ridiculous.
Bud Selig *thinking to himself*: "Oh look! A nice brand new stadium! This place should host an all-star game ASAP!" :crazy
*about old ballparks hosting the all-star game*: "Oh, what good would they be? They are fossils by now. Who wants to see ancient artifacts?"
Thankfully Bud, you'll be gone in 2009. What a waste of knowledge, and of my time for that matter.
EDIT: By the way, I am not at all against St. Louis having an all-star game. It's just that I'm against the way of thinking that determines the place to host this event.

boston's a nice town and fenway is a great place to see a ballgame. i have nothing against either the city or the ballpark but this kind of thinking is what has mucked up the situation to the point where the mets and cardinals have gone 40 plus years without the all-star game. and it's going to be a 40 year wait for kc too. the red sox had an all-star game in 99 so they shouldn't have another one until 2029. it's a matter of equity, fairness, and all that. i don't care who's celebrating an anniversary or which ballpark is being torn down-fair is fair.
