DENVER (AP) -John Mabry agreed Monday to a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies, who invited the utilityman to spring training.
The 36-year-old hit .205 in 210 at-bats over 107 games for the Chicago Cubs last season, seeing time at first base, third base, left field and right field.
Mabry, who bats left-handed, has a career .265 average with 95 homers and 441 RBIs. He has also played for St. Louis, Seattle, San Diego, Florida, Philadelphia and Oakland.
At Coors Field, he has a career average of .398 with four homers and 28 RBIs.
If added to the 40-man roster, Mabry would get a $750,000, one-year contract. He could earn $300,000 in performance bonuses: $50,000 each for 400, 425, 450, 475, 500 and 550 plate appearances.
