I went to the HoF Game in '05 when it was the Red Sox and Tigers. The best way -- most guaranteed way to get tix, I should say, is to buy into the least expensive membership of the Friends of the HoF; it was $40 that year -- and then you can get your pick of tickets, which are very INexpensive. I got 4 outfield bleacher seats for $10 each. (Because it was the newly-minted World Champion Red Sox playing, demand was high and I missed the infield seats.) If you don't want the membership, then you have 2 choices: Go to Cooperstown on 2/17 and buy tix at the ticket office, or else wait until members have had first dibs on the tickets, and then get a shot at what's left.
Doubleday Field is just beautiful, and with my membership in the HoF I got into the museum free (otherwise $14). The town is lovely, with the lake stretching away to the north, and more souvenir shops per capita than anywhere I'd ever seen! :D

Annie,
When you went to the 2005 game was it mainly the younger Red Sox who played or were on the bench? Is it like the atmosphere at a spring training game?
The shops always seem to be crowded, but there is so much to see in the area close to the HOF. I went to the Chocolate Winterfest one February years ago. It was sunny and the temperature was 50 degrees yet two feet of snow lined the sidewalk paths. For a small fee, baseball teams of all ages can book Doubleday Field.

It was very much like a spring training game, though a fair number of the starters did play at least one inning, and then were replaced by minor leaguers. It was, however, much more relaxed than ST. It was very amusing, in that after a couple innings, Johnny Damon took over as third base coach and Dale Sveum (3rd base coach) played a bit at either first or second, and got a hit!
The Tigers won, but I didn't mind. It was SO much fun! :D :clapping

Now I wish I had gone to the game. I didn't know about the membership allowing you to buy tickets or I would have joined. The Red Sox will be back in another 15 years though.
