From the sounds of it......Portland sounds like an amazing city and I really didnt know it was so prosperous. Plus getting Nike and Addidas on board for baseball wouldn't be bad. Plus just imagine the division re-alignments if it happened.

"Tampa Bay could move to the National League, where it might develop a rivalry with Atlanta, with Portland's team joining Seattle in the American League West. Texas could be shifted to the AL Central -- a change it was promised more than a decade ago -- and Detroit could move to the AL East. Nothing happens easily, or quickly, in MLB, but this makes sense."

Ive also said it before but the best way to slow down the Yankees and Mets is a third team in the area.

Funny, I just talked about both of these topics on another thread.

I said that having a Portland team in the AL West with the Mariners would be an incredible thing for northwest baseball, I'd love to see it. It would be a big blunder on MLB's part if they put an NL team in Portland.

As for the NY idea, I don't think there'll ever be a third team in New York proper (or even Brooklyn), but a team somewhere in New Jersey, perhaps in the Newark area, would be ideal.

Portland also has the AA Red Sox Team (Sea Dogs) and have a fairly big fanbase (for the minor leagues).

I do recall Marlins' management talking to city officials about the possibility of moving and building a stadium there, but it didn't pan out as they thought.

The only reason that it didn't pan out is because Portland Mayor Tom Potter does not at all care about MLB. He shunned the Marlins away instantly. He could not have been more wrong. He cares about taxes and his own little projects. Of course, he's an idiot.

It might put a small dent in M's attendance, since they get fans from all of the Pac NW... but, the Portland vs. Seattle games would be sellouts every time.

In All-Star Baseball, on my Nintendo 64, I put an expansion team in Portland.

The Portland Green Sox.

Are we the only sport that wants to contract teams? I mean, every other league wants to expand...

I would love to see a MLB team come to portland. The Pacific Nw could use another team. Im sure there would be plenty of fan support from the local population.

I think we are all self centered when it comes to baseball... which is okay. Personally, I can not get enough of baseball. I wish everyone had the same view as me. It is America's pastime.

How can you take a team away from Denver? I don't understand. Good fans, respectable club. Give them time.

I thought talking about moving them to the AL West would have given away that it was Oregon...hence my wink smiley.

This would be incredible but I've learned not to get my hopes up. The right leadership to make this happen is not in place right now. Portland would heavily support an NHL or MLB team imo.

I think bringing in a team for Portland is a great idea. With them coming in, the fan base would stretch for baseball throughout the northwest greatly. Although i wouldn't even think about taking the rockies out of denver. Coors field to me, giving it time, will someday be a classic ballpark.

Well, in the American League expansion poll, (http://baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=53757) Portland OR does quite nicely, placing fourth thus far, with 26.67% of the voters thinking it'd be a good place for an AL team.

I happen to agree it'd be an excellent place for an MLB team.

I wish they would just move the Marlins to Portland, Vegas or San Antonio. Then move them into the AL West, and lastly move the Pirates to the NL East.

Its really moronic that we have 6 teams in 1 div and 4 in another.
