Piggybacking off of the previous post, what Padres do you see joining Gwynn, Winfield, McCovey, and company in Cooperstown in the future?
I would say Piazza, R. Henderson, and Alomar are definites. McGriff and Dick Williams deserve to be there as well, but may not have the backing. Also, and I know I'm in the minority on this, I would have given Garvey the nod as well.

Don't forget Goose Gossage spent a few years in San Diego, including being the closer for their 1984 NL Champion team.

Don't forget about Ozzie Smith (covered by 'and company')

Yep, Goose slipped my mind completely when writing that. He should definitely be in and hopefully gets the nod in '08.

If you're thinking of true Padres, the name that will most likely come up as a Future HOFer will be Trevor Hoffman.

If he can keep it up, how about Jake Peavy? I know, I know... still WAY to early to say.
I don't think McGriff will make it. Alomar should.

Rickey will most likely enter the Hall as an Athletic.

What about Sheffield? Probably go as a Yankee if he makes it, but you never know. Woulda thought Winfield as Yankee, but that didn't happen.

Why would he go in as a yankee? Why not a Marlin, Dodger, Brewer, Brave or a Padre?

Sheffield is hard to define because he moved around so much, but the Yankees claim on him is no way better than Atlanta, LA or San Diego. He's not a Yankee anymore, so his three-year stint in New York was just that, not a career definer by any means. If Sheff is a Yankee, then Clemens is a Jay.

If Sheff is a Yankee, then Clemens is a Jay.That wouldn't be so bad. :)
Alomar should go in as a Jay though.

He's the only one who'll wear a Pads hat.
Like anyone will look at this in this lame forum:
1st year with the Padres and the year inducted in the HOF:
1973-Dave Winfield - 2001
1974-Willie McCovey - 1986
1977-Rollie Fingers - 1992
1978-Gaylord Perry - 1991
1978-Ozzie Smith - 2002
1982-Tony Gwynn - 2007
1983-Steve Garvey - ????
1984-Goose Gossage - ????
1988-Roberto Alomar - ????
1991-Fred McGriff - ????
1992-Gary Sheffield - ????
1993-Trevor Hoffman - ????
1996-Rickey Henderson - ????
2006-Mike Piazza - ????
2007-Greg Maddox - ????

I know he's more a Dodger than Padre, but I can think of no good reason that Steve Garvey isn't in the Hall, while Robin Yount and Tony Perez are. Garv was an all star 10 times, Perez 7 & Yount twice. He had 200 hits 4 times, won an MVP and was a star for 5 World Series teams (same as Perez, four more than Yount). He had a higher batting average than either, hit for power and earned four Gold Gloves. Yet Steve never received much consideration. I wonder how the voters explain this "logic".

Hoffman is the only one who will go in as a Padre. Even Peavy will end up going in for another team (I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just being realistic).

If Roberto Alomar gets elected he might for the sake that the Padres gave him his first opportunity in the majors. He only stayed around 3 maybe 4 seasons at each club he played for. Then again, I'm sure he's happy about those WS rings from his Blue Jay days.

Forecasting I know, but Adrian Gonzalez hits like a "steady Eddy" and I don't see him anywhere but his home town - SD. Besides I don't think we have seen him at his full offensive potential yet. Gets better every year and is probably the best glove man at first (In the NL at least).

This is for the HOF forum, but I don't think All-Star appearances and MVP awards should factor in HOF voting. As much as I liked Garvey, he's not a HOFer.
Alomar will go in as a Blue Jay, McGriff might not make it, Sheffield might make it as a Dodger or Brave, Rickey as an Athletic, Piazza as a Dodger/Met (would prefer a cap sans logo) and Maddux as a Brave.
