I think that if Clemens returns to the AL it would only be the Red Sox. It would create too much starting pitching but we all remember the Arrojo fiasco and I dont think the Sox are worried about too many starters. Also if you look at the Clemens foundation web page, he has an abundance of Red Sox related merchendise for sale for his charity. Many fewer Yankees items on there. This is also Schillings last year before retiring so it would be a great PR story for them both to go out together on top. Imagine these potential rotation members: Clemens, Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Papelbon, Lester. Add Clemens for the second half of the year and send Papelbon back to the bullpen after "closer by committee" fails once again. Thats my theory...

First, Randy has to be traded. I don't see this happening unless this happens.
Two, I still feel he is going back to Houston or retire. When I first heard Randy was going to Arizona - I thought Clemens and this would be great. After more thought - I would love to have Clemens but not mid season (have to start Spring training) at 22M (16M same as Andy) but only 1 year. So now I just not crazy about it. I don't mind Hughes (mid season) and if needed Proctor/Sanchez/Rasner.
So for me if Brian can't trade Randy (OK, He's our 4th pitcher! Wang, Petitte, Moose); doesn't sign Clemens (OK, we have depth and a good pen to help). I am a big Roger Fan and he will help our rotation but we have to wait for the Randy trade (IMO) and what he wants.
My 2 cents,

Forum, not a chat room, it takes a while to get replies, especially well thought ones. I think he will pitch. If it's with the Yankees that's fine with me, always open to another good arm in the rotation. If it's elsewhere so be it, save beefing up the Boston rotation. Siggy, I think the merchandise could be tied with him spending most of his career and dominant days in Boston and I truly don't think Schilling's potential retirement would be a he'd see to come back.

I think if Johnson is traded, the Yankees will more aggressively pursue Clemens than they did last year, while I believe the Sox will be less aggressive than they were last year due to signing Matsuzaka.

Johnson is gone :D
I`m the voice of optimism around here so the future Yankees GM says....
HECK YEAH
He'd be a perfect fit, maybe he can even get Pavano to workout more and cut down on the freak accidents. Seriosuly the intangibles alone he brings to a team are incredible, not to mention actual on the field performance.

What intangibles? If he works out something like he did with the Astros, he's not even going to be with the team on road trips when he doesn't need to. What specifically are you talking about? Helping the young starters? Wang is the only player near that, and I have a feeling they arent going to be sharing too many beers together, unless he's going to be in spring training with Hughes and the rest of em.

I have to agree.
Clemens bring negative intangibles, which would be the special treatment he'll receive from the team.
