Where can I get my hands on any JD McCarthy postcards. Mr McCarthy was a baseball photographer in Detroit who specialized in taking posed photos of ball players. I found a few on eBay, but that's it. Rumor has that the complete set runs for approximately $10,000.

PM me a good email address and I will put in touch with my TC.com postcard guru. We have about a dozen JD McCarthy postcards loaded to our site; however, that section isn't ready for public viewing. I'm sure he can pass on some info that might be useful and I'd be glad to put you two in touch.

FYI...last summer I sent George Altman a card, and he signed the card and added a signed JD McCarthy postcard.

Yeah I have gotten back from Altman before. I know that some players from the 50's and 60's have them and send them out, but I was curious where I can get the entire set at?

I dont know how anyone could put together a complete set of McCarthy PCs, no one knowns how many makes a complete set. The cards were made for over 40 years. The common players book for $3 ea in NRMT. Highest valued cards are for cards that are signed and used (postmarked), so the age of the card is known. McCarthy PCs were ordered by the players (sometime well after they retired) for fan mail requests. Many players have multiple poses and variations and some cards were printed for many many years.

They are good for autograph collectors, but unsigned have little value.

The PCs that are more highly desired by Postcard Collectors (because they are easy to date) are the Dorman, Howard, JJK, Olmes, and the many Team Issued PCs of the 1950-60s. These were only made for a couple years and the age is not in question.

McCarthy PCs are on ebay all the time, and thats most likely the best place to pick them up.
