Aubrey Huff according to the Sun is now a oriole. i like this signing, he can play 1st, 3rd or any corner of position. he will give mora a break at 3rd once in a while, and the same goes for payton in lf. he will be thrown into the mox with millar and gibbons for the dh/1b battle. huff has had 90 plus rbi's in 3 of the past 4 yrs and if he can stay healthy he will put up big numbers at camden yards. i like this signing big time

Jay Gibbons, Jay Payton and Kevin Millar hate this signing.

It seems official, analyzed here (http://bvtn.blogspot.com)...
I believe this means that they won't be looking at trading Brian Roberts for Laroche anymore.
Huff combined for a 106 OPS+ last year and has hig over 20 home runs in each of the last five seasons. He will give the Orioles many options because of his right handed bat and his ability to play 4 different positions along with DHing.

Really great signing!
Huff is very underrated. But he is a RBI-machine. 30 HR and 100 RBI. And this for 6.6 mill$ a year. Our Drew-situation looks even worse now...:evil
Millar and Gibbons will fight, Huff won't because he is far better than the other two guys.

In this market that's a huge bargain

Three years ago, teams would have thought it was a bargain too. I love this deal. Something that might actually help the club swim, not just tread water.

I'd take Markakis over Gibbons any day.

Nice deal
By the way Erik, wouldn`t it be better to simply take out the deals done in your sig rather than writing Done?

I'm leaving it there for two days, then taking it out.

Great signing, the O's now have a pretty solid lineup. If the young pitching steps up and the bullpen additions aren't busts (like in years past), I believe the O's could finish at .500 for the first time in a long time.

Chances are, they won't all be busts.

I think his bat will be a good fit for the Oriole lineup. Good signing.:clapping
Huff is a decent signing but I don't consider it as well as some others:
- His OPS+ the past 5 seasons: 132, 139, 124, 98, 106. His power is down lately, and was not given any more boost in Houston than in Tampa Bay.
- He's another positionless player. He's spent time in LF, RF, 1B, 3B, and DH. You can add him then to Gibbons, Millar, and formerly Conine, Lopez, etc.
- Is he really anything more than a platoon player? His career splits are:
.288/.350/.498 vs RHP
.276/.325/.427 vs LHP
...and he's had a lot of trouble in Tampa vs. AL lefties since the start of 2005.
Honestly? I think Jay Payton was the better signing. Time will tell of course; if Huff finds his bat again, he'll ruin my argument. But that's another "if" in a long line of "ifs" for this team.

I agree, but I see us keeping him mostly at 1B, since right now we are so bad in that area. We need his bat and could use someone else that can hit home runs. In addition, it would be nice to have someone that could help out Mora when he gets hurt (which he does....). And lets face it....Gomez stinks.

:laugh Don't knock it til you try it.

132 AB... .341/.387/.439 (115 OPS+)... and played every infield position? :noidea :D
Also, look at the splits:
vs. RHP (84 ABs) - .345/.382/.440
vs. LHP (48 ABs) - .333/.396/.438
...doubt he'll have that kind of season again, even in part-time. :o

Huff is a notoriously slow starter. Most years he heats up by June and has a monster 2nd half. Don't get down on him in April if he's below the Mendoza line going into May. He was my favorite Ray at one time, when he was considered one of our "future" stars. He got beat down by the constant losing and was a vocal critic of the direction of the team. The fans supported him in that regard (at least he showed he cared), but by the time he left last July, there wasn't a lot of fans screaming that he was gone. Like it has been rehashed in this thread, he plays a lot of positions (great for fantasy baseball  ) but none of them above average. He improved his 3b game last year until Nick Green took his legs out from under him and he was out for over a month. He couldn't find his swing after that he got dealt to the 'stros.
Good luck Aubrey, I'm sure you will get more cheers than jeers when you come back to Tampa Bay this year with the Orioles! :waving
