What year players do you write to the most? Past ball players? Present?
I prefer the older players. From the 40's thru the 60's.

well im 14, so im oviosly most intrested in the current players, so i chose 2000+, but im also intrested in retired players who were good for the most part, and any retireid player who played on the sox. Im also starting to try and get former award winners like rookie of the year, cy young, mvp, ect...

There's no "none" option, so I can't vote. :p

Hehe, what can I say, I've never TTM'ed players. Haven't had the desire. *shrugs* :)

I have to agree with you. Not everyone who posts in this forum does TTM. In no means does that make them any less a collector or fan. There's more than one way to rock, or however you want to put it.
Not that the poll implies that at all. But I think it's a valid part of the poll.

TTM = "Through The Mail"
Letters, autograph requests, etc. :)

Oh hell, I thought it had something to do with all this text messaging, and I wondered what players, especially those from the 40s who have to be at least 85 or so now, would give out their cell numbers for some fan without a life to send them text messages.

That is a good point, but why post in a thread/catagory where one doesn't have a care/point or where one can add something intellegant to the debate. I don't read or post on 80 percent of the threads on this site. Just my 2 cents. No big deal.

I merely pointed out that I can't place a vote. It certainly doesn't take anything away from the poll. Aside from not having a none option (heh), I think it's a good poll and I continue to check the results just out of curiosity.
As for posting habits, we're all different and have varying contributions to make. I think it's what makes for a good ballgame. ;)

Good point. I was just trying to state my opinion. I still check out other threads, but don't post.
I actually enjoy hearing other people's points of view on our hobby.

That's because when I created the poll it was strictly meant for those of us who DO write to retired and current ballplayers. I didn't give the option of "none of the above" because the topic of this thread IS NOT "Do you write ttm?" Catch my point? :D

I'm not a fan of exclusionary polls on general forums, but that's besides the point. Outside of AC, none of the many TTM collectors have posted about their preferences.
So let's hear about it?

I don't really focus on a specific time period. I collect autographs from all eras. I will go through periods where I collect certain teams or certain decades, but overall I collect any and all autographs. Currently, I'm working on my Mets' all-time roster list. I have sent out and received back quite a number of the Mets from the 1978 team recently.

I like AutographCollector's approach. But I certainly understand those who only go for current players. If I was to actually do TTM myself, it wasn't until the 80's when I really got into baseball and following the players, etc. So I would probably choose that decade to concentrate on. When I collect something, I don't need it all, but I know I can try to get what I like.

Thank you Capt!
From my many years of doing this I would say that I have had a better success rate with those who played from the 1940's thru the 1960's. My success rate within that era has to be in my opinion at least 85%. They 9 times out of 10 write friendly letters back to me telling me about their playing days. Heck Gene Conley (Former pitcher for the Braves in the 50's wrote me once and told me that in his rookie year he made "$350 PER MONTH!" Wow! Talk about getting underpaid back in the day. Anyways... even though I wasn't born until 1976 that era of baseball has ALWAYS fascinated me. And the more that I get back from those players the more that I learn. :)
