Hey memorabilia guys,
I'm not new to baseball, but I am new to cards. I was looking on Baseball Almanac, and I saw that there were well over a dozen Topps sets alone in 2004. I'm looking to start collecting this season's set (2007) and I was wondering which manufacturer you would suggest. I also want to know which set is just the general, everyday set. It's so complicated!!
Thanks for any help and advice you guys can give on starting up a collection for this season.

Hey, i dont realy have a card shop around me, so i usualy go to target for my cards. The base set will just simply be labeld TOPPS 2007, with no other title with it. And if your looking for a game used jersey card or somthing like that, you dont have a very good shot with topps base sets, but if you still want to try, by a hobby box which cost about 20$. But i like the bowman cards, they have lots of rookies and prospects, along with lots of insert cards.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I think it depends on what you want to get out of it. Are you looking for investment potential, the abililty to complete a set, insert cards, cards of your favorite players, rookies...? Also determine your budget and what you can get near you. Maybe buy a pack of several and see what appeals to you.

Thats what i usualy do at the begining of each year... to see what cards id like to collect for that season.

I'm just looking for a basic set, with not too many "special" cards. I'm not really looking for investment potential either, just something I can have when I'm older to remember what it was like in baseball when I was 17. Sounds like the TOPPS 2007 set would be a good one?
(BTW, what are insert cards?)

insert card can be anything from jersey, signed, parellel, refractor, x-fractor, chrome, theirs countless types of things. They are simply card you get in a pack that arnt a normal card or part of the "base" set. So if your not realy intrested just go for Topps 2007, it would probley be ur best shot at high number of aforidable cards.

Ya, I just want a set that has all the players from this season and nothing flashy or tacky. What other companies make a complete set like this, other than Topps?
Also, do you guys have a site where you can get set lists? I haven't found a good site yet (Baseball Almanac has just started, from what I can gather).

Upper deck has a basic set like topps, but topps will be easyier to get.
Right now i cant find the official checklist for any 2007 exept the bowman heritage cards, but when i find the upper deck and topps base set i will post the checklist.

You may want to look into Topps Heritage. It is more expensive than the regular Topps but are pretty popular because they use classic designs. In 2007 they are using 1958 design. I dont think they are using SP's this year so it should be easier to collect.
Here is the PR photo of the cards.

I've seen TTM around alot. It's sending cards to players to get them signed, right? What does it stand for?

Through The Mail, IIRC.
