Dodger Dogs

The famed and beloved Dodger Dog (well beloved by Dodger fans at least ;) ) is the line for some limelight, with a "major award" pending. One of the few remaining links to the days when the team relished World Series titles, has been nominated by AOL CityGuide for its City's Best Hot Dogs 2007 in Los Angeles.

The Dodger Dog faces very hot competition, including such grizzled veterans as Carney's, Hot Dog on a Stick, Jack's Diner & Billiard Club, Jody Maroni's Sausage Kingdom, Nathan's Famous, Skooby's Hot Dogs, Weiner Factory, The Stand and Pink's.

Fans can vote on line at www.aolcityguide.com/losangeles/best through Jan 26. Last year more than 2.6 million votes were cast. The Dodgers drew more than 3.7 million fans in 2006, so the competition is very winnable.

So Dodgers fans, and anyone who has ever been to Dodgers Stadium and enjoyed a Dodger Dog, get onto the net and cast your vote......maybe the Dodgers can claim their first major championship since 1988! :clapping

I hate to say it, but the Dodger Dog would be dead last in my rankings of those places. Dodger Dogs are mushy because they have no casing, and they're always served tepid and by the time you get to your seat they're room temp. In a city that is famous for its world-class hot dog stands, Dodger dogs are a dissapointment.

However, I still often will get one at the Ravine - pleasant memory trigger. :D

But if you want the best hot dogs in L.A., and the best onion rings on earth, just stop here...

Costco has larger, better tasting, and cheaper hot dogs than Dodger Stadium. You can add sauerkraut, regular or deli mustard and relish. And a drink is included.

It's not the taste that makes it special, the fact that it has been around with the Dodgers all this time and the tradition around it, that is what makes it special not some silly price or hot dog length or whatever, every dodger dog is a piece of MLB history like Fenway Franks are.

Yeah, and that "tradition" cost you way too much. And they're no way as tasty as the hot dogs and Polish sausage at Costco.

And as you can get mushy, tepid hot dogs just about anywhere, every Costco sells the same tasty and cheaply-priced hot dogs and polish sausages. One need not leave all the comforts of home when travelling.

When I was at Dodger Stadium, back in 1995, my wife's aunt recommended a Dodger dog.

It was the grocest hot dog that I have ever eaten. I have never tasted something more disgusting than this thing.

I would sure recommend NOT to eat one.

If a Dodger Dog is truly the most disgusting thing you've ever eaten in your entire life, I think you need to see a tastbud replacement specialist right away. :laugh

I am currently in Concord Ca, and finally got to experience a COSTCO Dog - and I must admit I was impressed. Would have enjoyed some chilli with it but there was ample relish & onion :D . The seating was not close enough to the TV section to be able to watch ball games in season :laugh

Thats crazy the Dodger Dog is the best tasting Hot Dog in the world. Get there before the game like when the players are doing batting practice the grill it even longer and it tastes GREAT

They do, if you live in the west that is. ;) Dodger Dogs have always been sold in the supermarkets here for as long as I can remember. They used to be just called Farmer John foot-long hotdogs, but about 15 years ago they started putting "Dodger Dogs" on the package in SoCal. I'm not sure how far outside SoCal Farmer John products are availabke though.

Farmer John goodies are definately available in Las Vegas because we buy their bacon, but have not seen any "Dodger Dogs" there.

The Dodger Dog has been a staple at Dodger Stadium since 1962. The Travel Channel named Dodger Stadium the world's best stadium for fine dining in 2004. In its most recent survey, the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council listed the Dodger Dog as number one in sales with 1.61 million per season.

The Dodger Dog has become such an L.A. icon that in 2002 the Universal City Walk's food court added a "Dodger Dog" restaurant, featuring the 10-inch dog, the jumbo dog and the spicy picante dog. The Dodger Dog even had a Bobblehead doll constructed in its honor.

Still don't know the results of the City's Best Hot Dogs 2007 competition....voting closed Jan 12 and winners were to be announced Jan 29. I am searching, and suspect that maybe Carney's were declared the winner, but maybe a Los Angelino may know?
