Being a Cards despiser, I was delighted that you guys signed Suppan even though I wanted my Mets to pick him up. I will root for you guys now to unseat the Cards in the NL central and I know you can do it. You held Suppan in high regard and he earned every bit of that praise with stellar NLCS performance AND a great 2nd half of '06 going 6-2 with a 2.39. In addition to that he went 44-26 with a 3.95 ERA in the past 3 years.

I get a little worked up and pissed off when I hear in this forum from so many posters that Suppan is a mediocre #4 or #5 starter. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a great Christmas present for you guys so you can rejoice. You picked up a great pitcher and person. Gil Melche? LOL, gimme a break. you guys got Suppan. I am envious

Suppan is exactly the kind of pitcher we need on the staff right now. If he gives us what he's been giving the past few years, a slightly above average starter who you can count on for about 200 innings, then this was a great decision. If he performs better, someone whose worth the actual 10.5 Million a year, I'll be extremely happy. As of right now, I'm happy to have him on the club.

Agreed we really needed to sign an effective arm that will give us a good number of innings for the next few years.

I'm also glad that the brewers front office have actually shown us that they are willing to be competitive in the market and attempting to sign some decent players instead of sitting on their hands and letting everyone passing them by.

I'm not sold on this FA signing for you guys. While he is a decent 4th starter behind Ben Sheets, Dave Bush, and Chris Capuano, he is an average SP making a lot of money. I think that it's a great thing that the Brewers are spending money (I've been following the team a bit more since I go to U of W-Madison), but I think it would have been a better idea to trade. Getting a guy like Dan Haren, Rich Harden, or even Javier Vazquez would have made your rotation one of the best in baseball. Unlike Jim Abbott, I'm glad my Mets didn't sign him, and I think that his best days are behind him (if you can honestly call them best days). He's a rich man's Steve Trachsel -- mediocre underlining stats and can rack up wins if he's given good run support. I think a rotation of Sheets, Bush, Capuano, Vargas, and Villanueva could have won you the central...

Hmmm, so according to most posters then, we won't be seeing Suppan pitch until the 4th or 5th Brewers game next year. LOL, it will be most interesting to see that happen. Gee what happens when he's opening day starter?

Suppan gives the Brew Crew another solid bat off the bench also

If suppan is better than no.3 starter next year I'll be suprised...

So you're saying he will be pitching 3rd in the roto from opening day? LOL, that will be fun to see pan out. Face it Supp is your opening day starter. The other very worthy clowns will follow. I'd say that with that staff, the Brew Crew are the central front runners

Barring an injury the plan would likely be having Sheets pitch opening day. I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility to see Suppan as the number 3 guy in the rotation.

If you knew the team or Doug Melvin much, you'd know Sheets would be no.1 and Capuano No.2. Hell, Bush might be 3rd but I doubt that.

If you knew the team or Doug Mevlin much, you'd know Sheets would be no.1 and Capuano No.2. Hell, Bush might be 3rd but I doubt that.

Dave Bush will def. be the 3rd starter. I personally think that he can be a #1 in the NL. His ERA was a little high, but it should have been lower (his WHIP was 1.13). He had a 7.1 DOM and only walked 38 people in 210 IP. Jeff Suppan wishes that he could have stats that looked like that...

Well I sure hope that the Brewer management team think higher of Suppan than you 3 dudes do, otherwise they are a bunch of morons for shelling out 42 mil for a #4 starter. I dont give a hoot what the market supposedly dictates. It would be 100% ludicrous for a lowbudget team to shell out that kind of cash for a nobody that you guys say Suppan is. Obviously you and management are on totally different wavelengths. I'd go ballistic if I thought my Mets were paying 42 mil for suck mediocrity. LOL, you can get that for near nothing. Me, I dont think Mil's management is near as idiotic as u people make them out to be

Jeff Suppan's career stats:
51.2 W%, 4.60 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 5.6 K's/9 IP, 3.3 BB's/9 IP

He's a mediocre pitcher...it's a fact

Or the Brewers have two excellent pitchers who are obvious better than Suppan, and a young pitcher who performed excellent in his first full season?

moebarguy

They might just give Suppan the 2nd or 3rd spot in the rotation since they gave him so much money, but he's not better than Capuano or Bush.

Another 12 game winner! Solid signing, goofs.

However, if you look strictly at his record and stats at miller park, they are fantastic and just the kind of guy they are looking for. Some players just need a change of scenery. Regardless, the brewers needed to do something with the pitching staff and this may be it.

He said he will try to take his W.S. experience to his new team, which is the Brewers:)

You guys have a pretty good team. Of course it depends on your Mark Prior, Ben Sheets. Hopefully both guys can stay healthy this year.
