ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have acquired right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the Chicago White Sox.
The Rangers got McCarthy on Saturday for pitchers John Danks, Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner. The Rangers also acquired Minor League outfielder David Paisano in the trade.
McCarthy was 4-7 with a 4.68 ERA in 53 games, including two starts for the White Sox in 2006. He is expected to join Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla in the Rangers rotation.
Danks was the Rangers' No. 1 draft pick in 2003 and was 4-5 with a 4.33 at Triple-A Oklahoma, and 5-4 with a 4.15 ERA in 13 games at Double-A Frisco.
Masset also split time between Frisco (2-2, 2.06 ERA) and Oklahoma (4-5, 4.81) and pitched in eight games for the Rangers with a 4.15 ERA.
Rasner was 6-16 with a 5.41 ERA for Class A Clinton.

Rangers got themselves a stud lefty with a devastating 12-6 curveball and will step into the rotation right away.
Also, the best thing about McCarthy is that he's always been a "team 1st" kind of guy,and he is very mature for a youngster.
Rangers fans will enjoy watching him pitch.:clapping

Hey Chisox73, I believe McCarthy is righthanded. Actually your team, the White Sox, got the lefty in the deal.

Humph!
And to think that the White Sox refused to deal Brandon McCarthy at the deadline last year with a few prospects for Soriano!

Anyone else surprised the let Danks go? I am glad we got what we got but it just seemed they had put too much hope into Danks.

I don't think it's a great trade either way. Neither rotation improved that much since the cats not out of the bag for either pitcher. Only time will tell for this one...

We had extrealy high hopes for mccarthy, the white sox kept saying after we traded freddy garcia, that we did that to let mccarthy have a place in the rotation, thats how much we wanted to give him a shot, but now neither one of those trades make sense beacuse now were out of our 5th starter and a back up starter...

McCarthy is projected to have a 4.5 ERA this season, but has a high cieling. Not a bad trade either way.

i could see that era if you use him out of the bullpen, but if you put him in the rotation, expect it to be lower

Im not expecting anything. That is a projection for McCarthy as a starting pitcher -- I think from Baseball Prospectus.

I think he will end up with about 8-10 Wins and an ERA under 4.50...

Danks is going to be a decent player and masset is a question mark, but I hate to lose Rasner. I have seen him pitch a couple times and I think that he will be the steal of the deal.

No problem. From what I've seen and read about Rasner is he is very raw, but has a huge upside. (which is most minor leaguers I think).
Danks is/was a dilema for the Rangers. He was very good start/bad start. He had some control issues. I hated to see him go, but sometimes you have to pull the trigger to get something back.

Yeah, mccarthy was emerging on beacoming a very good pitcher, he works about twice as better when he starts a game rather than when you use him in releaf.
