For two prospects, an OF and a reliever, each with a little time in the majors. The Nats will pick up $2M of Vidro's salary for each of the two remaining years of his $16M contract.

A very good trade for the Nats. They picked up a good, young reliever and a solid OF prospect. Vidro is WAY over the hill at this point...

Vidro is a statue at 2nd; I imagine the Ms will look to use him at DH at least part of the time. Perhaps not playing a field position full time will give his knees enought of a rest that he gets enough power back to justify him at DH. I think this was more of a salary dump; the prospects appear average at best.

This was very simply a good move for the Nationals. They got two young players to develop either at AAA or in the Majors for the next season or so for a player that really no one wanted. Not sure why the M's made the move, but this will help the Nats continue to build for the future. I just feel sorry for Nats' fans because this season and next because about the only thing that you have to look forward to rooting for is Ryan Zimmerman.

--You guys got some pretty good prospects out the the deal. Snelling can really hit. He just can't stay in the lineup. I'd have rather seen him as the M's DH than Vidro, but the M's weren't willing to trust him to play everyday (although that is optimistic to expect of Vidro too).
--Fruto is a big strong kid, but he is extremely raw. He was painfull to watch in his time with the M's last season, but you could see the potential for him developing into a good reliever if he gets his mechanics straightened out.

Nice move by the Nats. Cleared salary while actually increasing their talent potential.

Over the hill? Maybe so, but it's interesting that he was what stood between Alfonso Soriano and his desire to play second base last year. I compared their numbers at the time of the dispute and Vidro actually came out a little better.
But right now, I would say Soriano is the most underrated player in the game to be unhappy about playing for the Nats and then go out and do what he did.

That is being very optimistic. When he's healthy he is one of the best at the plate for his respective position.

As much as we got something good, Goodbye Jose! :waving
I will never forget a few of your seasons up here; I know you are a great 2B.
All the best in Seattle :o

Felipe Lopez switches from SS to 2B, which was his natural position in the minors. He's played good ball at 2B in the past; this should be a defensive upgrade.
Hopefully Guzman's bat doesn't suck TOO much this year that the decent defense makes up for it.

Lopez's arm didn't seem suited to SS. He'd either rush throws or make NJ dig the ball out of the dirt too many times. Let's hope he's better at turning the DP from 2nd.

What has gotten into Jim Bowden??? He's actually making good trades now.
First, he literally raped the Reds 3 times over with the Kearns/Lopez for a load of garbage trade last year, and now he unloads an over-the-hill oldie to Seattle for a couple of young'uns with decent upside. It's hilarious how the Reds tried to whine about Majewski's arm problems.
Kudos.
