How many women out there have participated in any MLB/Minor League/Baseball fantasy camps, which ones, how was your experience, etc.?

I will be attending my 6th week-long Detroit Tigers Fantasy Camp in Lakeland, Florida at the end of January/beginning of February. I also have participated in 2 fantasy camps at Comerica Park... one was a 3-day weekend camp, and the other was a 1-day camp.

While the week-long camps in Florida are the best, I have had nothing but an absolute blast at each one. I have made so many lifetime friends there, not just amongst my fellow campers, but also with former Tigers. Out of the close to 200 people who attend the Florida camps each year, 1/3 to 1/2 of those are repeat campers. Many of those also attend the summer weekend camps in Detroit.

The Tigers camps are touted as the best amongst MLB camps. You get a whole week full of games and other camp activities for the best price. Each team has 2 former Tigers as coaches, and many current players and coaches stop by to meet the campers. I have met people like Ernie Harwell and Al Kaline many times.

What more can I ask for... playing baseball in Florida for a week and having a great time (and not working). Even if a participant doesn't like baseball much, they'd still have a blast. Like a camper once said, "It's like 6th grade camp but with beer... baseball all day, party all night!"

I'm not a female and I've never been to one of those fantasy camps...yet. I really hope to be able to get out to one soon though. I'd like to go to the Comerica Park one first though as the other one is rather expensive. Plus, I'm afraid of a 55 year old man outplaying me.

This is my 300th post.

I attended the Florida Marlins fantasy camp in 2005. It was a 3-day weekend camp. I had an absolute blast. Meeting knuckleballer Charlie Hough, Jack Armstrong, Rob Natal, Jeff Torborg and Tommy Hutton was amazing. They gave me the "Best Personality Award". I still watch my DVD of the camp.

I'm going to try to save the money to go the Dodgers camp in Vero Beach next year.

The Marlins hold a women's baseball clinic every year. We get to learn from a couple of players and coaches. It is so much fun! This year we were on TV.

I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience at a baseball camp. I guess, if someone has a bad experience (other than getting sick or hurt during the camp), it is probably their fault!

My friend who runs the women's baseball team in Chicago went to the Cleveland Indians weeklong camp. She had a similarly tremendous experience. We love to sit around and talk about our camp experiences.

When do the Marlins run the women's clinic, how many days is it, and how much does it cost?

They do it in either July or August. It's one day. Actually it's from 9:30 to 12:00. We pitch in the bullpen, hit in the batting cage and play in the outfield. This year they had us sit in the dugout and take pictures. We got autographs, a goodie bag and lunch. It's $35. The money goes to the Marlins Community Foundation. Sometimes they do raffles, but they haven't done it for the past two years.

I'll let you know when they have it next year, and if you're interested in coming down and making a weekend of it, I can get us tickets to the games and you can stay with me.

Not sure if I'd be able to go to it at that time (in the middle of baseball season), but it's good to know about it. Thanks for the info.

I agree they are fun. I attended SF Giants for 5 years, then I grabbed 12 of my fellow campers and started to attend other camps.
We did an All-Star camp in Vero Beach, Boston Red Sox(great playing in Fenway), Tigers camp(Jerry Lewis is great). Liked it so much, we are doing it again this year.
Next year its either Yankees, Brewers or Orioles.
Best experience in baseball out there, bar none. frank

Are you going to the Tigers camp this year? If so, which week are you going to? I'll be there 2nd week... the best week! A lot og the guys I know from camp have gone to other camps. They enjoyed them a lot. I've heard that the Tigers offer more than most any other camp, and the Tigers camp is 2nd to only the Mets camp for returning after they attend their 1st camp.

I tried to find out if the Braves have a camp, but i couldnt find anything. When I was in NY, the Mets and the yankees didnt have any camps i knew of.

I went to a one day camp from the Mets minor league team, the Brooklyn Cyclones. The experience was awesome. We started the day with introductions and basic fundermentals, then split up into groups as we went from one station to another to work on fielding, hitting, running, base covering, and pitching. They gave us a BBQ lunch, a t shirt, and free tickets to the evening game. In addition, the dedicated the day to Women in baseball (sponsored by ladies home journal) and let us take the field during the national athem (which was televised all over the metro area). We got to stand next to whoever we were a fan of on the field. Then one of the founders of NYWBA got to throw out the 1st pitch of the game. It was pretty cool. We all hung out together and watched the Cyclones win it that night. The Brooklyn Cyclones are located right on the boardwalk of Cooney Island, which is always a treat in itself. It was a perfect day weather wise to add to an already awesome experience. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

I believe the Mets do have a camp now, or at least I've heard they do. I think the Yanks do, too, but am not 100% sure about it. I'm just going by heresay.

I've heard that the minor league camps are a lot of fun. The Mudhens used to do one... not sure if they still do it. Some of my buddies go to other tourneys/camps that aren't affiliated with MLB teams, and they have a good time there. I don't think they have the same format and the comraderie may not be the same, but they would be cool to try.

I just completed my 6th Detroit Tigers camp in Lakeland, Florida, and it was an absolute blast as usual. I'm very happy with the way I played all around, and my team finished in 2nd place during the week, not counting the playoffs. It's so much fun to be part of it, because a lot of the same people go there year after year. 60% of this year's 2nd week camp were veterans of the camps. It's like a big fraternity (with women campers, too) and is terrific.

While we we there, Joel Zumaya, Justin Verlander, and Jeremy Bonderman were working out at Tigertown. There may have been other Tigers there as well (as I heard rumors), but I didn't see them.
