Just like the topic says: If opening day was tomorrow what 5 man rotation would you like to see?
Mine:
1.) Glavine
2.) Zito
3.) Mulder
4.) El Duque
5.) Maine

-Glavine
-Zito
-El Duque
-Maine
-Perez

After Pedro comes back, switch Glavine and Zito, put Pedro at the top of the rotation, and then bump either Perez or Maine into the bullpen. BTW, the buzz is that we're getting ONE starter, no more. You're not gonna get Zito if you get Haren, or if you get Mulder, you won't get Haren or Zito. And if you get Zito, you only get Zito.

I know that it's between Mulder and Zito (Hey! A guy can dream can't he!) :D
I'd rather have Zito.

I don't know why people are so high on Mulder...Not only is he injured, but he's flat out bad. If we're going to waste money, it might as well be on someone who is healthy (Zito).

Dan Haren
Tom Glavine
Orlando Hernandez
John Maine
Oliver Perez

Dude, he was pitching through an injury last season...he wasn't bad in '05.

Humber IS probably ready, and is the most mature pitcher in the Mets Minor League system. The only hitch is that, aside from five scoreless innings (he only gave up one or two hits, too, IIRC) at Shea, he's never pitched a game over AA ball. Perez would almost certainly get the nod after a good spring, with Humber getting needed AAA experience.

I'd call a 1.37 WHIP and a 5.4 Dom bad. Sure, his ERA was good and he had a high win total, but his important stats set his overall stats to reality in '06.

That's what makes it scarier to acquire him. Playing through an injury isn't career threatening, but when you keep quiet about arm issues and try to pitch through them, that's risky. Remember Robb Nen?

True, although I don't think Rick Peterson would let him pitch through an injury. As for his WHIP, yes, it was a little high (a bit like his 2004 WHIP, although no one debates he had a decent season in '04), but not off the radar. Also, a WHIP tends to be misleading at times (the posterboy for a good WHIP and a sub-par everything else this year was former Mets prospect Yusmeiro Petit), just like an ERA. That's why you either have to use a combination of them, or use ERA+. Mulder's 2005 ERA+ was 117, which is not shabby at all.

lol, I'm with Evan.

Realisitically, though, my current choice would be...

-Glavine
-O. Hernandez
-Heilman
-Perez
-Maine

I'm not gonna add a "finish-up-the-season" list, since this asks for OD rotation only. ;)

Anyway, I'm sure I'll update it as deals progress.

Eh, what Rick don't know won't hurt him, it'll hurt Mulder. Besides, if he did pitch through a seroius injury, chances are, the damage is done.

I don't like his 2005 numbers one bit. Although his ERA was a respectable 3.64, his PERA was 4.61 and his EqERA was 4.39, indicating that A.) His numbers were actually borderline average and that B.) he was getting the better side of luck. All this talk about injuries and his poor performance in 2006 leave me skeptical.

But I'm a Braves fan, so sign away :)

Personally, my ideal rotation for the start of the season would be...

Glavine
El Duque
Maine
Perez
Humber

Meaning we would sign Mulder. He would replace Humber in the rotation after a month, and then in August (?), Pedro would hopefully replace Maine in the rotation (as that would mean Ollie is performing). I really have faith in Mulder being able to perform, and his contract should certainly be reasonable.
