Cecil Cooper spent most of his good career in Milwakee and was a fan favorite. Do you think his # should be retired?

While Coop had seven good seasons with the Brewers, a couple of them excellent, three of his last four seasons were average-to-mediocre.

I don't think he misses the "qualifications" for uniform number retirement by a large amount, but I like to see a player with maybe ten or more good-to-excellent seasons with the same team as a candidate for uniform number retirement.

I only wish the BoSox had never traded him. In '71 I saw him play for the PawSox (when they were a AA squad) and couldn't wait for him to reach Fenway. This was after the Cardinals Rule V'd him but had to return him.

Cooper is one guy who should get a major-league managerial gig..and soon.

Good for you, Brew!

Love the Coop, but no. There are many more years of baseball ahead of us and in time he will looked at as an above average player. Close, but not quite worthy of retirement.

Plus, i don't think we're taking into account Sheets wears his number. A bit too late to retire it don't you think.

That hadn't even crossed my mind (not that I advocate retiring Coops number)...I don't see the team retiring it for Sheets either. Number 15 will live on!

Not necessarily. I'm a Red Sox fan and the numbers of Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4) and Carlton Fisk (27) were retired..and quite a few people wore those numbers after Doerr & Cronin retired and Fisk left. Also, the Bistin Celtics retired #18 for Jim Loscutoff while Dave Cowens was still playing with the proviso that Cowens could continue to wear it (it was also retired for Cowens as well).

OK..they won't retire #15 in Fenway for Cecil, but I'd like to see the Brewers honor him. I still fondly remember the days when he played for the Sox...

Aye, at this current rate, Coop deserves it to be retired more than Sheets. But I still hold out hope for Sheets that he's the savior of our team and one day will warrant the retirement of his jersey number.

I don't know how many times I've heatd the phrase "I wish the BoSox have never traded him" when talking about former Sox minor leaguers players.(Jeff Bagwell, David Eckstein, Jeff Supan, Freddy Sanchez, Curt Schilling, Tino Martinez, etc..,)
