I started a Pilots autograph collection a couple years ago. Here's who I've gotten so far.

Did you get all these TTM?

Considering a fair number of these men are no longer with us, the collection is even more impressive.

As riredsox suggested, would you be against filling in gaps with autos you didn't get yourself? Gene Brabender would be an example.

I wonder how many Mickey Fuentes autos are in existence. Even in Puerto Rico, they must surely be extremely rare.

Got some stuff signed TTM last year by Jim Gosger, including a copy of his '69 Pilots card. In my letter to him, I kidded him how his #4 was retired in Fenway and that my wife now uses "yeah suuuuuuuuuuuure" as a line at me.

He wrote back, thanking me for writing and he threw in a "yeah suuure!" as well.

I have O'Donoghue's 70 card signed as well. I do have some cards from Diego Segui, but I didn't get his 70 Pilots card signed, tho.

Also had some cards signed from Jim Pagliaroni as well.

I wrote to Bob Meyer once, and got perhaps the coolest response ever. He now owns a magazine called Barter News, and in my letter, I asked around 3 questions related to his short tenure with the Pilots, as well as his magazine. I got back a 2-page handwritten response, as well as my signed card. Very nice guy who I'm sure is happy to still hear from fans.

http://www.angelfire.com/ultra2/pacificlegends/69%20pilots.htmThat is a great collection of Pilot autographs and you have inspired me. Up to now, I have only collected Detroit Tiger autos on home made baseball cards.

I have made 48 different cards so far and have sent out 13 for auto request a few days ago. I need about a dozen more photos that I am still searching for. I will keep my successes posted here.

You should have success with Diego Segui, John O'Donoghe and Gary Bell. I had a TTM success from Segui earlier this year and had an IP success from O'Donoghue earlier this year as well.

I just got stuff back from Bell on Saturday. I'm concinced the world and baseball needs more guys like him! Along with the card blowups I sent, I asked hom a question about something I'd read in Ball Four. After he was traded to the White Sox, Bell told Jim Bouton that he got hit for a $100 curfew violation and he was going to get even by nabbing $100 worth in baseballs. I asked him about it and his answer was:

"I gave away more than $100.00 worth. Last two weeks of the season, 30 games out of first place and the jack ass (ChiSox manager Don Gutteridge) checks rooms."

Like I said, Baseball needs more people like Gary Bell!

I have made the worst mistake I could have. It is so easy to send out a Topps card to get autographed but my number one nightmare making my own cards came true today. I spelled a players name wrong. Tom Kelly, former great Twins manager, was a Pilot farmhand and I made a card of him and sent out. Along with the Piniella card, this was the one I was most looking forward to receiving back. He wrote a short note back and said I "can't be much of a fan .....very embarrassing for him" and he was 100% correct. I have made over 100 different of these cards and I check them over and over to make sure everything is right and some how I missed this one. I am going to write him back and apologize. I hope he accepts it.

I forgot to mention that in 2007, I got Jim Pagliaroni and Jim Gosger both TTM.

Gosger thanked me for writing and added a "Yeah...suuuuuuuuuuuure"

A new guy to the forum........always loved those Pilots !!
Being from Nashville, the Pilots had a Nashville connection.
Joe Schultz, the Pilots one & only manager, was the manager
of the 1955 Nashville Vols (Southern Association).
See photo below.

I'm interested in starting a Pilots autograph collection but is there a list of
addresses for the players. I have an old Beckett address book.....but those
addresses are most likely out of date.

Also looking for a Renata Galasso Seattle Pilots Card Team Set.
Haven't seen an affordable set on Ebay in a while.
Any help most appreciated .... Thanks !!

You may also want to invest $15 joining SportsCollectors.net. I have thoroughly enjoyed the services there since getting reinterested in autographs (Pilots and Detroit Tigers) a couple of months ago. Good luck!!!

davidsb..... Thanks for the tips !!!
Got a set on Ebay yesterday...can't wait to start.
I want to get the autographs on cards with the players in Pilot uniforms.
From the best I can tell there are 7 original players that cards don't have them in Pilot uniforms....so I intend to make a card of simple design with a
photo of them as Pilots.
The only sag is I can't find Pilot photos of:
Gary Roggenburk
George Brunet
Billy Williams
Gordy Lund

Any help most appreciated !!!!!!!

Oh BTW, I got Bob Locker's email & sent him a message reguarding an autograph & his address........he responded in 10 minutes !!
Seems like a great guy !!

bobw357.......Great Looking cards !!!
I've been working on my collection for about 3-4 weeks now !!
I've got 9 signed responses so far.
Had many great responses... Marv Staehle sent a thank you card for the extra cards I sent him to keep for himself. Most of the players are really appreciative of our recognition of them after all these years.
On the other hand.... Mike Ferraro card was returned unsigned & so far after
3 weeks...no responses from Tommy Davis, Ron Clark, Tommy Harper & Wayne Comer (& this is ok cause...cause any player that signs is going out of his way for me).

Have any of you had similar experiences with these former players or do I have bad timing :laugh Thanks !!

I met Davis at a Legends game a few years ago...didn't know he was going to be there or I would've brought stuff. He was there selling his book; no idea if he would've charged for signing, but we chatted a bit; a mutual friend of ours was one of his teammates on the '70 A's.

Comer has always appeared as a jerk...if you've read Ball Four, you can see why and even on some of his cards, it looks like he's sneering at the the camera. I've heard that Harper can be moody at times and I've never heard anything good or bad about Clark.

davidsb....Yes, Just sent 1 card with a letter (typed) in which I told him of
the time I got to see him play plus the request.

For the other players, I'll try to send them a copy of a newspaper clipping that has a photo (from their minor league days if I have one) for them to keep or if I make a card for them...I will sent them extras. They really seem to enjoy this...I gotten several letters with the signed card expressing their thanks. In fact I received 2 more yesterday :clapping

I never fault the players if I don't get a response....You never know what could be happening in their life personally.

I plan to resend another request to everyone I don't get an initial response to
.........maybe with a hand written letter.
From everyone that has tried this appoach.....does it improve your chances ??

Thanks !!
