So, I have a proposed ad hoc solution to the problem of giving a walk its proper value, since just giving it some universal value doesn't do the trick. You discount/handicap a walk by a player's slg.. For example, I'll take two of my favorite players and multiply their walk totals by the inverse of their slg (I am probably not using "inverse" correctly, I'm just not very bright, sorry):

Year Williams Musial

42= 51.04 - 31.62
46= 51.948 - 30.149
47= 59.292 - 39.68
48= 48.51 - 23.542
49= 56.7 - 40.232

I am sure that I am not the first person to ever propose this. I also don't think it's perfect by any means, and since it's mutilating some actual numbers in favor of fairyland numbers, I definitely wouldn't use it if I was some big league manager. But I think it is one way to try to figure out the offensive value of walks.

I am just posting to try and bring this thread back to its proper place.
