Who is the greatest video game baseball player you've ever played with? I haven't played the more advanced games, but I remember striking out 23 batters in a game with Greg Maddux in Triple Play 98. Maddux went 43-0 that year, and had an ERA of zero-point-something. That was a long time ago.

well i haven't played many baseball games except slugfest and major league baseball 2006
in Major League Baseball 2006 I don't think i haven't struck anyone out with Mariano Rivera...

Wakefield when you're playing against another person. Knuckler is a beast, and makes the fastball look like its going a million miles an hour.

Nobody in MVP 05 is really dominating, except Walter Johnson and Phil Nierko.

Move Damon to left field.....? Why do you not apprecicate his skills? And to answer your question, the best video game character I have used is actually Mike Maroth on MLB 2K5. I was better with him than any other pitcher.

MVP 2005, Mark Prior dominated. Also K-Rod was unhittable.

There were some players from Baseball Stars on the NES that were just sick. The best thing about that game was that you could name your own players, and as you won games, could improve their attributes.
I played with a bunch of guys who were only passive baseball fans, as they grew up in Indiana, and if it isn't basketball or auto racing, it is not on the news or in the papers.
One guy named his players after all Rock Stars. I must say that Lars Ulrich, or Alice Cooper were tremendous hitters.
Another guy used all sports stars from other leagues. Larry Bird became a wicked left-handed power hitter, and Bernie Kosar was MUCH faster on the basepaths than you would expect. Don Majkowski was a great pitcher, IIRC.
I had all baseball players, and would have to say that Stan Musial was the best.
So there you have it, Musial the best, followed by a five way tie for second between Majkowski, Kosar, Lars Ulrich, Cooper, and Larry Bird.
Yes, I'm dead serious.
Long live Baseball Stars!!

Dennis Eckersley, Tecmo style? Man, he threw gas. And he had the flutterball as well.

I have to agree. Using Wakefield has sometimes been considered cheating in my circles.

On Slugfest 2006 Joe Nathan is pretty freaking unhittable...
By the way, don't play the slugfest games, they suck. It's too easy to hit a homer, to hard to strike someone out, and the pitches have such good freaking movement that anything you think is a strike will be a ball and vice versa..

Any knuckleballer is tough to hit in a videogame, at least for me, but Wakefield especially.

Whenever I design a pitcher, I put all the attribute points into two pitches: fastball and knuckleball. I'll end up with a knuckler that really dances, and a very-accurate fastball that goes mid-90's. Devestating.

I'd have to say Jd Drew on MLB the show. I played with the Dodgers so he is who I used mostly. But man, it was to easy to hit homeruns. I could have easily hit over 110 homeruns in a season.
Even on MVP 05 he hit a lot.

I can never hit any closer on MVP 04, but Eric Gagne and Robb Nen least of all.

I simulated a whole season in MVP 2005 once. Rocco Baldelli and Dewon Brazelton won the MVP and Cy Young respectively. Remember I simulated the whole season so it was pretty interesting how they managed to do it.
Anyway the players I was best with were Phil Niekro and Mike Schmidt for pitching and hitting.

For me, the best is either Manny Ramirez from MVP 2005 (after having 5 HRs going into ASB, hit hit 38 more after break to tie for lead. Anything up and in, I drive FA away from home. Also, Jeff Bagwell and Barry Bonds from ASB 2003 were pretty good. Both were 30/30 and i think 40/40 by June. lol.

Paste, the clean up hitting first baseman for Jersey in BasesLoaded for NES. He would crush just about everything.

I remember playing slugfest 2004 I think...And of course being a homer, playing the Tigers....getting lit up and then putting in Steve Sparks...and going on to throw several no hit, no ball in play innings. Which is a good thing cause I fielded about as poorly as the Tigers (from 2003).

Oh yea, how could I have frogotten pitchers, guess I was thinking hitting statistics. anyways, I think Pedro from MVP 04, 05 and ASB 2003, and Roandy Johnson from ASB 2003 are the best for pitchers. I got many 20+ stikeout games with them.

I don't remember the name of the game, but it was pretty much an arcade version of RBI Baseball (this was the early 90's).
Anyway '72 Cesar Cedeno was a monster. If he wasn't hitting home runs, he was stealing bases.
On the pitching side, '71 Vida Blue had one pitch that was totally unhittable.

I forgot to mention Ichiro (or anyone else with maxed-out speed). You can bunt every time, and then steal second easily.
PS: In MLB 06, there's no Barry Bonds. There is some guy with Barry Bonds-type attributes though. Did Barry not want himself to be portrayed in the game?

I don't believe that Bonds allows himself to be marketed through the Players Association. For things like this game, the creators would have to deal with Bond's people.

Ken Griffey Jr in "Ken Griffey Jr Baseball" for N64. There was a code you could do that whenever you made any type of contact with him, it was automatic homerun

Ya. A-Rod is excellent in MLB 06.
On another note, the key to success in career mode is creating yourself with maxed-out speed. It will ensure that you start in at least some games as the leadoff guy.

Yup. Did that, played every game, bunted every time, wound up hitting .536.

In HH2001, which I heavily customized/basically built a sim league out of, the best pitcher I ever had on any of my teams was Smokey Joe Williams or Walter Johnson. Both had incredible 32-1 seasons at least once in their career (Williams had two of 'em). Ron Necciai was also unhittable. Currently playing? Dick Redding or Herb Score. As for hitters, Oscar Charleston, Rogers Hornsby, Ike Boone, and Josh Gibson have been the hardest I've ever pitched to. Hardest currently playing is Al Kaline.

In the earlier versions of MVP Baseball, back when Johnny Damon was on the Athletics, he used to give me such big headaches. He always got a hit in a crucial situation, and more often than you'd imagine, he'd hit one 450 off me in a close game.
The most recent pro MVP Baseball game, I think 2005, I play all Franchise - I have my entire roster made up of me and my friends. We're the 2020 Seattle Mariners. At this point in the Franchise, there are only a handful of real players still in the game. Everyone else is a random player generated by the computer.
But, when these random players start topping the Top 10 in offensive and pitching categories, I go edit their names to something more memorable. There's "TwoPitch McGee" for Florida, and "Moyer Royale" from Kansas City, as well as "Jimmy Rapekill" and "Baron VonCannon" (a catcher), both playing for the Yankees.
Moyer Royale has had career highs of .393 avg, 74 HRs, 60 SB, 212 RBI - not all in the same season. He did go 60/60 once though.
