your right. great season: 121 Runs, 52 doubles, 4 SB's, 116 BB's, 19 IBB, 8 HBP...
And if it were not for the stike shortening the season, this is what he would have had:
R - 135
H - 203
2B - 58
HR - 32
RBI - 126
BB - 130
TB - 359
TOB - 342!!!!! (that would have been good for 8th all-time for a single season)
RC - 171
Not to mention that his BA was 82 points above league average, his OBP was 131 points above (!!!), and his Slg was 195 points above as well!

I imagine this one won't be too close either, but let's see:
Jim Presley 1985; .275/.324/.484, 157 H, 33 2B, 28 HR, 84 RBI, 71 R, 2 SB, 284 TB 90 RC, 117 OPS+
Edgar Martinez 1992: .343/.404/.544, 181 H, 46 2B, 18 HR, 73 RBI, 100 R, 14 SB, 287 TB, 116 RC, 163 OPS+
Adrian Beltre 2006: .268/.328/.465, 166 H, 39 2B, 25 HR, 89 RBI, 88 R, 11 SB, 288 TB, 92 RC, 108 OPS+

You're right -- Martinez, 1992.
I cant believe Beltre's is even in here.

Well, I didn't have much to choose from. I guess I could have added Russ Ortiz, or Bill Stein, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Yeah thats what I meant -- If Beltre's 06 is even close to top 3 -- The Mariners havent had much talent at 3rd over the years...

Well, early on, the entire team stunk, then Presley came along and had a couple good years, but he flared out real fast, then came Edgar, who had a few good (one great) years, but knee issues kept him out. Then came Blowers, Ortiz, Bell, Cirillo, and Spiezio. So yeah, there isn't much competition. Beltre could easily become the teams best 3Bman ever, just by giving him the playing time. Heck, give him 2 more years of mediocre playing, with 20 HR's/season, and I'd put him at #1.

It's Edgar, going away. Beltre had a career year with the Dodgers in 2004 in, oddly enough, his contract year. He's more than likely a one-year wonder.

I wish we could count Edgar's magical '95 season. Probably the biggest mistake on MVP EVER. .356 BA, .429 OBP, .628 SLG, 29 HMRS, 113 RBI -- and that's not including the intangibles he brought down the stretch.

This Poll has been closed. Unanimously, Edgar Martinez, 1992 was selected. Thank You to all those who participated.

Didn't Mike Blowers have a decent season? What about David Bell?

I didn't make this poll, and probably would have included those players if I did, but would you have voted for Blowers or Bell over Martinez?

Yeah, Blowers and his 113 Hits - except he also had 128 SO's in that same season. Also, his .257/.335/.474/.809, 106 OPS+ aren't helping his cause. And it's not like he was a defensive gem out there, in fact, he was definitely below average defensively.
And Bell doesn't belong anywhere near this list as well. He had 3 years with the Mariner's, all with an OPS+ below 100 (never topped 95 in fact), and his best year (1999), was when he was playing 2B, and even that wasn't good by any means.

Just wanted to throw those names out there for argument sake. It's a tough call, but if I had to choose, I'd have to take Presley's year. (he did OK in '86 too). I can't believe I just said that. He also K'd a lot.

You are saying you'd take Presley over Martinez?
And he put up a .303 OBP in '86, just in case you didn't notice.
