When do the Giants not sign people in their 30's?

Thoughts?

ESPN Reports:
Outfielder Dave Roberts has agreed to terms on a three-year, $18 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick confirmed Saturday.

Very good, now it looks like Bonds is out.

Roberts should be a great pickup, hopefully for you Giants fans, he won't dissapear..

Roberts was sure to go to the Giants when they named Bruce Bochy their manager ...

UGH! What an AWFUL signing by the Giants. In his "career year" Roberts was still a subpar hitter and TERRIBLE defensive outfielder. The Giants just took a big ole' zero-gravity moon step backwards.

Does this make him the highest-paid utility outfielder in baseball history?

I'm a big fan of Roberts, but come on...$6 million a year for 3 years? He'll be 37 by the end of the contract, and he definitely won't have the speed in 2009 that he has right now.

And, how is he a terrible defensive outfielder? I never got a chance to see him play this past year, but he played in 127 games and didn't make any errors. Granted, he doesn't have much of an arm (1 assist in 2006) but from what I remember of him in Boston, he's got a good glove and good range.

Another awful contract.

Sabean needs to be fired. Every since that steal in the 2004 ALCS (sigh...), Dave Roberts's career has improved tenfold. Good for him for getting this contract, but he doesn't deserve it at all.

I'm noticing the same thing...Finley what last year? Before that Alou, all of whom could be some of the folks on here's fathers. Ok....maybe not that old, but perhaps if there are some twelve or thirteen year olds on here.

How is Roberts a terrible defensive outfielder?

Because he IS! LOL Yeah he doesn't make errors much, but he's small, has no reach, a TERRIBLE arm (one of the worst in recent memory), and only mediocre range.

Roberts looks like a steal when you compare with Pierre.

A steal among the medicore? That's nothing the Giants could be happy about. Not to mention they sign yet another player on the wrong side of 30 yet again.

The Giants got a good player in Roberts.

But, I still think that the Dodgers have the better one in Juan Pierre, the Giants needed something close to that but cheaper and they got it!

Even so, I'd take Robert's 18 million contract against that Matthews Jr. 50 Million dollar contract.
