Alexander Smit has been placed on the Twins' 40 man roster.

Reported is that the Twins did that to protect him for the upcoming rule 5 draft.

I can't open the link, but I have seen this Alexander Smit has been some spiritual (new age minded) guy.

But because Smit is a very common name in Holland, like Johnson in English speaking countries, there is a big chance that someone has the same name.

Try this:

Does anyone know what the Twins project out of him? Not sure if he's good but I'd love to see someone from Europe in MLB sometime soon, it would definately make people say whaaaaaaaaaa.

The most recent was Ralph Milliard. I consider him a Dutchman because the Dutch Antilles are still a part of the Dutch "Empire".... And besides that he played in the Dutch leagues before he went to the States.

Oh.... of course there is Andruw Jones...:D

Haha ok ok forgot about the empire thing, so to be more specific, players whos baseball development was just the Holland portion of that Dutch Empire.

In that case, Robert Eenhoorn was the last player from Dutch soil, who played in the Majors. He played middle infield (mainly short stop)for the Yankees and the Angels. With the Yankees, he had to deal with a certain Derek Jeter.

Nowadays, Eenhoorn is the manager of the Dutch national team. And with his MLB experience, he is doing a helluva job.
