View Full Version : Baseball Word Play

Had enough of the vote-off games? Try this. Each post must alternate between an adjective and a player's name, or baseball reference. The adjective comes first, followed by the name of the player. The first or last name of the player/reference must start with the last letter of the previous adjective. I'll give an example; Zany. Yogi Berra. Antiseptic. Comerica Park. Kinetic. Etc. We'll eventually run out of adjectives, so if you want to use nouns, clarify.

I'll start.

Oh, I thought I was supposed to use the last letter of the previous word (dead), and use it as the first letter of my entry (deranged). I wasn't aware the player's name had to also end with a D. It didn't look that way on riverfrontier's examples. Oh well, sorry.

I'll start again with "Dead":

Delehanty.

Does that work?

riverfrontier
12-01-2006, 09:41 AM
Take the last letter of 'dead', and use it for the beginning of a player's name. Or last name. Ed Delehanty applies. Now the next post should be an adjective beginning with 'y'. I'll do it.

Yellow.

Now I am confused. Doesn't your answer have to start with a Y?

No. It would have to start with an "H".

Autograph collector, you are right. I screwed up. We should also add adjunct clauses to the grammar.

I think we need to restate the rules of this game:

The first letter of the adjective must start with the last letter of the previous player, and the first letter of the player must begin with the last letter of the adjective.

riverfrontier

Thanks, Elvis. Yes, the preceding adjective should start with the last letter of the player's name in the preceding post. LIke this: Maury Wills.

Taking the 's' from Wills, I'll go with 's'uperficial. Looking for a suitable player whose name starts with 'L', and who fits the description, I'll settle for Lonnie Smith. Take it away, 'H'.

Dirtball, Dodgerfan1, and Elvis, nice posts. As a quick pick-me-up, maybe we should let idioms and phrases take the place of adjectives. Like 'out to lunch' or 'cruel and unusual'. Also, maybe we can alternate the order of the names and adjectives. Just put both in the same post. Might spice things up a bit, and let us breathe, relax, and enjoy our instant coffee. I'll start

In good hands. Steve Sax.
