I know that he was a speed demon at 2b during his playing days. But why was his nickname "Spook"?

It is my understanding that the name was given to him in the minor leagues because he was a "phantom on the basepaths". He was excellent at stealing bases. Up until that time he was known as "Spider" for his build.
