with the tribe looking for bullpen help, jhonny peralta struggling defensively, and some spare talent in the tribe infield...what about a marte or garko trade for a closer? both will have pretty good trade value, and jhonny peralta could then move to either 3rd base or first base, with joe inglett playing short for the tribe. this would improve the infield defense, and would give the tribe some more speed to work with in their offensive lineup....thoughts?

As a whole you don't want to create a weakness to fill a weakness.

There were rumors about Garko being traded to Oakland for some of their relievers, but knowing what Billy Beane feels about relievers my first thought upon reading that rumor was wondering what was wrong with his pitchers?

I can't see the Indians trading Marte for anything, especially after trading Kouz. Garko is a possibility however.

Not sure that Peralta would be that good as a third baseman, and i am convinced the Indians don't want Inglett anywhere near short.

Well if Marte/Garko is offered for Huston Street your GM would be an idiot if he turned that down.

Street is about the only reliever i would trade Garko for - and i can't see Oakland making that deal (the original rumor was either Calero or the guy with the 6 inch long last name - Duschererer?)

but with the Kouzmanoff trade Marte is untouchable

What about that .261/.322/.451? Should have traded him instead of Kouzomaff (SP?)

That's not absolutely terrible for a 3B -- Sometimes you have to go with projections than AAA production.

Well considering what they gave up for him I'd say that's bordering on god awful for someone who's supposed to be a top 20 prospect...I wouldn't give up on him, but Kouzamoff was a better player.

Question: what would you do if you had a young thirdbaseman who in a September call up hit .206/.325/.294 and then in fulltime duty the next year hit .196/ .324/ .374?

Dear Chris:

MiLB numbers don't necessarily mean anything.

When Kouz was hitting .400 i googled the last guy who hit .400 in the minors.

Turned out he spent all of 18 games in the big leagues over 3 years.

So don't judge a player based on stats.

(You never did answer my question by the way - that player was Michael Jack Schmidt who ended up in the HOF as a third baseman.)

and Boof - don't worry, i don't expect Inglett to be playing short for the Indians next year....
