Jim - It should be in the rules thread, but here's a copy of that section (Section 4, Sub. F):

F. Players on multi-year contracts may have the remainder of their deal bought out for one half of the total remaining value of the contract during the non-tender perod. For example, a player on a 3 year/10M per year deal could have the 2nd and 3rd years bought out for a 10M cap hit in year 2 or a 5M cap hit in year 3.

If you're wondering, it would cost Mac 9.75M (assuming a three year deal) to buy out the last two years, or 5M (rounding up to stay with 250K increments) to buy out just the third year, by my calculations.

And there's no way I'll have to give up Robinson, not with the Skipjacks around.

And I wouldn't be forgetting about the Hard Cider, Knights, Cannons and Redbirds. I thought I had a really good team last year, but they ALL finished ahead of me.

--I think the Redbirds are in for a rough season. Its rebuilding time for them. I'd be surprised if any of last years playoff teams slip before the expansion squads though. The Diablos and Gamblers both look like they are ready to step up this season too. All three new teams will be much better than the doormats and one of them might challenge for the wild card, but none is likely to lose oneof their highest paid players.

--If I had known he'd go so cheap (although I don't know how high Max might have gone) I wouldn't have made the Boyer deal. At less than half the price of Robinson I'd say Eddie was a bargain. I was almost ready to go to 12.25 even with Boyer to shield Billy Williams for 1965, but decided against it mid-auction.

I'm very pleased to get Pizarro for $9.75M. I needed another SP for '64, and he was by far the best availible. Not only does he shield Cash but Bunning as well. And since the Hard Cider are basically set for '65, I can easily afford the buyout.

--Pizzaro was definately the best pitcher on the market. I thought I had the 2nd best team before tonight, but you adding Pizzaro dropped me down to a likley third. I just hope that operating on a 90M cap next year handicaps you enough to switch that around.

mac195
11-18-2006, 01:10 AM
Maybe it's just me, but I think you'd need an absolutely incredible season to be worth 19.5M, and Pizarro isn't even close in 1964. If he was the final piece for a title, maybe, but Mac has enough guns left to go all the way without him.
Even with Pizarro I'm still with everybody else this year - in the Skipjacks wake. They should be an absolute juggernaut. My chances at the title improve from very slim to slim. Without Pizarro, I would certainly have been behind Mark as well in regular season victories - in 3rd place at best. And a 3rd place finish would have cost me Bunning. Adding Pizarro at 9.75 should at least keep the core of the team together one more year, and who knows, I could get lucky in the playoffs.

Having been the lucky benefit of the wake of call-offs for the anticipated overtime involved with missing the OSU?"that team up north" game, I managed to get screwed out of a second phase of this thing. Yippeeeeee.

However, I doubt I'd have made much of a run at any of the 6 guys anyway, and with my bottom feeding budget, I'll be staying out of much of the bidding here as well.

For now though, I'll bump Cline, Clete Boyer and Bo Belinsky all a cool quarter mill. up.

Well, Mac, if your intention was to cover Bunning and Cash as well as use Pizarro for the 64 season, I can agree with that. I overpaid Schwall last year to protect Freehan, so I can appreciate that move.

And Scott, I got your 250K bid increases on the players (the master list will be up very shortly, soon as I update my bids). But in order to avoid any questions later on, or perhaps someone skimming the thread quickly to see a current bid on a player, could you please list the amount of your bid for each player, rather than the increase over a previous bid? That makes it easier for everyone, I think. Thanks, and I appreciate it!;)

--I was hoping to sign Bell up for 3 years cheap or 4 at 5M. He isn't much this year, but he is a durable reliever in 65 and a workhorse starter of abpove average quality in 66-7. His salary level in this auction is more than I would pay for his best year though.
