What would it take (beyond a change of ownership, general manager, and somewhat of a miraculous sales-pitch) to trade for Jason Jennings and get him to sign a 4 year deal?

Seems like he is available. He would be "veteran" compared to most of our starters yet young enough to grow with the group. In my opinion, he immediately becomes the # 1 starter, setting up a rotation of:
Jennings, Duke, Snell, Gorzy, and either Maholm, a free agent, or one of Burnett, Chacon, Youmans, McCleary, etc.

He is a great hitter as a add-on.

Would a deal of Castillo, Burnett, and Bayliss get him?
Would a deal of Duffy and Maholm get him?

And, if we dealt Duffy, would the FA OF from Toronto be able to play CF and lead-off (at least until McCutcheon is ready)?

Despite that he was already traded, would you have traded those guys to get him? He's a pretty mediocre pitcher. He's not better than Maholm. Duke was great in his debut 2 years ago. While he had a pretty mediocre season last year, the sophomore slump is pretty common. Ian Snell had a very good year for you guys. Gorzy is a huge prospect with a tons of potential. Maholm is def. a good 4th or 5th starter. I think that if you truly want a #1 starter, packaging one of your pitching prospects, Castillo, and maybe an OF prospects would have been the route to take. But it should have been for a legit #1 or #2, not Jason Jennings...

Jason Jennings as a legit #2 at the least. He should have a monster year in Houston.

Better team, good sinkerball pitcher, more run support, was 12th in era for the NL and 4th after the all star break in 2006.

OK I did.

Oswalt /whip 1.169/ era 2.98/ 166 so/ 38 bb

Jennings /whip 1.379/ era 3.78/ 142 so/ 85 bb

ERA has a way of showing the other stats. Jennings adjusted stats are/ whip 1.278/ era 3.36 I don't care for the adjusted stats though since the pitchers ERA shows just how he done at the parks he actually pitched at, the only parks that matter in a season. It's a good way to cherry pick stats for a ex Rockies pitcher though.

I don't see your point of comparing Oswalt and Jennings...The only thing you showed is why Oswalt is a great pitcher and Jennings is mediocre.

No, an ERA does not show the same thing as WHIP and BB's. Look at his career numbers. He's only had terrible ERA's because he's had the same bad interior numbers. Last season he had a low ERA, but the same terrible walk numbers. There's no doubt that he will revert back to a high 4 or even 5 ERA next season.

I doubt it but we'll just have to wait and see. Jennings should even do better this year not having to adjust to sea level every road trip. this should even cut down on his BB's by 33%.

Now I'm going to leave this section that is for the Pirate fans.
