Early this morning, I heard that Walker was signed by Baltimore. I however have not heard that updated on the local sports radio shows? So what is the scoop? It would be a real shame to lose Walker. Especially in this division, where Thome, Hafner, and a few other high quality LH hitters reside. Walker BTW made each and everyone of them look silly at least once last year.

I read somewhere that he got a three-year deal from the O's for around $11 million or so. It's too bad to lose him, since he was pretty good, but I'm sure we'll find a good (if not better) replacement for him. He just simply commanded too much moolah for a guy who MIGHT pitch in a third of the games, at most. So long, Mr. Walker. I hope we rough you up good next season.

It's next to official. I just posted a thread in the Orioles' forum about it.

Assuming he passes his physical, he's signed for 3 years with the Orioles for $12 million... congratulations to him - he stuck with baseball for years, making peanuts in the minors.

That leaves a pretty big hole on the Tigers. I don't really like either Ledezma or Andrew Miller in that job.

After re-signings and contract negotiations with other non-eligible players, the Tigers could have a payroll somewhere close to $100 million, depending upon whether we sign Bondo to a long-term deal this season or next. There was no room for Walker. Both Ledezma and Miller are starters (or at least should be), but if we had to replace Walker in-house, I'd say we go with Ledezma. He's familiar with the team and staff, and has a pretty nice arm as well. Miller needs to spend some time in the minors, maybe a year or two. He needs to build up his frame and his arm strength, and we don't need to use him at 21 years old like we did with Bondo. I really hope Miller doesn't make the ST roster, at least, not yet.

If Maroth is ready to start again, and Ledezma or someone else makes a case for a rotation spot, could we see Kenny Rogers as the main lefty out of the 'pen? I know he wouldn't put up a stink, as he's already said he'd be fine with getting pushed out of the way for a younger arm. Right now, he's a total team player. Kenny might be able to extend his career by a couple years too, if he were to move (back) to the 'pen. Just a thought.

We lost Walker?

That really makes me want to use a phrase that is used to express disappointment, contempt, or derision about the general conditions that prevail in a place or society. Although it is unquestionably true or real and not in doubt that he was most likely not feeling or showing pleasure, contentment, or joy about how Leyland was making practical use of him.

I like the "CAT", but not for $4 million / year. Good luck in Baltimore Jamie!
