ESPN is stating that the Yanks are in talks to send JWright to the O's.

No word on who would be sent to Yanks.

Well he is a pitcher and he did have a quite respectable ERA last year.

Still, I wonder what they plan on getting for him. Maybe bullpen help.

MLB.COM reports that the Yanks will deal Wright to the O's for a reliever, maybe LaTroy Hawkins ???
and ESPN says the Yanks will get Chris Britton from the O's, a reliever .

The New York Daily News is reporting the same thing. (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/470596p-396085c.html)

Gotta love what Brian Cashman is doing. When he was able to trade Tony Womack a year ago, I was convinced he could find a way to dump anyone - here's to hoping that he finds a way to trade Jason Giambi and Carl Pavano!

As for Wright, it looks like the team will pick up 3 mil of Wright's salary, which is money they'd have to spend to buyout anyway. I think Wright is pretty attractive to teams at 4 mil. Wright was pretty decent much of last year and could be a decent middle starter on most team who are in need of more pitching.

All reports I'm reading say Wright for Chris Britton (0-2, 3.53 ERA). If Cashman really has this deal near done, this could be a very beautiful offseason (if we get Matsuzaka or not). :dance

Why u guys so eager to get rid of Pavano? I know his injury-ridden past has screwed the yanks over but this is supposed to be the year he breaks out.

Who in their right minds are going to take on a 44 year old mediocore pitcher for 16.5 million dollars coming off back surgery. We're stuck with him. I don`t want all of them up next year either. All I want is Rasner in the rotation and Sanchez as the LM/SSP. In 2008 Hughes can battle with Sanchez to take Randy's place.

My hat is really off to Cashman so far this off-season. This current trade is def. a step in the right direction. He gets rid of a mediocre starting pitcher making too much money, and gets a young arm for the bullpen. It's def. a good thing that Steinbrenner is taking a backseat to this franchise as of recently.

So far the Yankees got 4 unproven pitchers
???????????????????????????????????????????
What is Cashman making a collection?
I hope he don't think he's going to win a championship with all these Ham N' Eggers

I don't remember seeing them winning anything with Gary Sheffield and Jaret Wright.

Seriously, dumb moves. The Yankees have never built championship teams using their farm system. Why start now...geez

Wright could be effective once again with Mazzone and could be a torn to the Yankees since they dealt Wright to a division rival. The O's are not that far off from having a respectable rotation. If Wright revert back to form during his stay with Altanta, then not sure how great the move will end up being. It's a decent move in my book since they need to move him, but I would have suggest getting him out of the divison since it's never ideal to deal in the division, unless it's to the D-Rays. :laugh

I hear all this talk about trading pavano if we get that jap. Well we would need more than that. We currently only have a 4-man rotation as of now:

Wang
Mussina (if he comes back)
Johnson (surgery)
Pavano

Now I don't like Pavano or Giambi, I don't mind seeing them go, but we need more pitchers not less. how about this. We sign the Matusaka guy, get rid of pavano, sign Zito AND Schmidt! sounds great to me!

Zito
Schmidt
Wang
Matusaka
Hughes?/prospect?/Mussina?/Johnson?

J25,

I believe the term "jap" can be viewed as derogatory. I doubt you meant it that way, but please try to refrain from using it again. Thanks.

The Side B I'd wanted to point out was that Cashman was kind to the players (Sheff and Wright) to the team they were traded for, re the coaches & FO. In Sheff, he'd gone to Detroit, returning to his manager & GM from from the 1997 Marlins, who'd won the WS then.

In Wright, he'd returned to Leo Mazzone, now with the Birds. Best of luck to 'em ... except when they face the Yanks, of course! :D

Glavine wants to go back to ATL.

And why would you want ANOTHER 40YO pitcher?
Have you learned nothing from Randy Johnson?

Besides, Glavine is a FA.

No it's not a court case, but it's also not fantasy baseball. I just love it when people throw out one-sided trade offers or just whimsically assert that "the Yanks could have gotten a big time pitcher if they had thrown JARET WRIGHT into the deal." Whatever you're smoking, I want 5 pounds of it.

Awesome!!!! Now on top of murderers row, a potentially great rotation, a lights-out bullpen and a great farm system going for us. We now have good Karma!!!!!!! Cashman is a pure genius :D

J25

We cannot afford Shmidt, Zito and Matsuzaka. Besides a rotation of Wang-Mussina-Matsuzaka-Rasner-Johnson is quite good. Maybe not as good as some of the teams but it is still fantastic.

Ahem, aren`t we forgetting somebody???!!!

Nobody is taking on Randy's contract and age. BTW in that (freakishly expensive) rotation Zito would be 5th and Schmidt would be 4th with Wang 1 and Mussina/Matsuzaka 2 and 3.

I think that when the Mets got Glavine (2003-06), he would've been a great fit for the Yanks. However, he didn't wish to learn to deal with a new set of pitchers, which would've been the case had he switched leagues. People often compare NL to AL based upon pitchers switching leagues. He already knows all the NL vets and only has to adjust to the rooks & 2nd year players.

Karma, Scharma, I think that the Yanks just wanted to stockpile on the young guns. In Sheff's case, they wanted to avoid the daily barrage of nuclear attacks he'd send their way via the sound bites. When Sheff's angry, he cooks up a mean broth! And I do mean *MEAN*!

So can we afford Matsuzaka or not? I figure it'll be Wang, Moose, Schmidt, Unit, Rasner. If Schmidt accepts a 4-year deal, that may work. I'm not too high on 5-year deals for pitchers. He'd never go for 3 years.

If Yanks go after Jason, I don't think they will give him a 4 Yr deal.
I think 3 with an option for 4th held by the Yanks themselves.

They are supposed to annunce the results of the Matsuzaka bidding in less than a half and hour but Gammons is now reporting that sources have told him that the Sox have won with a 42 million dollar bid. So I expect to chjange my sig at that time ;)

Clemens and Pettitte are more attractive options to me than Schmidt. I expect that Schmidt will go to Seattle as well.
