Valenzuela plays with son in Mexican League
First baseman, 24, joins former Dodgers left-hander, 46, with Mexicali
LOS ANGELES - Former Dodgers left-hander Fernando Valenzuela has a new teammate as he begins his third season with the Mexicali Aguilas of the Mexican Pacific League — his son.
Fernando Valenzuela Jr., a first baseman playing winter ball for the first time, spent last season with the Mobile Bay Bears, then the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. At age 24, he is the oldest of Valenzuela’s four children.
The elder Valenzuela, who turns 46 next month, had a 173-153 record and a 3.54 ERA in 17 big-league seasons — 11 with the Dodgers. He was the NL Cy Young Award winner and Rookie of the Year in 1981, when the Dodgers won the World Series.
Valenzuela, who currently serves as the Dodgers’ color commentator, is playing in his 14th season in the Mexican Pacific League.

BACK IN ACTION- Former Cy Young Award winner and current Dodger broadcaster Fernando Valenzuela earned his first win of the winter season for Mexicali of the Mexican Pacific League, helping the Aguilas to a 9-3 victory over Guasave on Saturday (Nov. 4). Valenzuela tossed 5.1 innings while facing 20 batters, surrendering two runs on four hits while allowing one walk and striking out one. Through his first two starts, Valenzuela has pitched 9.2 innings, compiling a 4.66 ERA while fanning three batters.
