I know this has probably been asked 1000 times but what are the chances of the Rays eventually being moved out of the AL East? I hate to sound like a pessimist but they cannot compete financially with the Red Sox and Yankees so even if the Rays do get it together the best they could ever hope for is 3rd place, which won't get them to the post season. In any other division with a bunch of low to mid-level teams maybe they have a chance.

actually 1001.....heh heh heh...they might be better off in the NL..

in any event, it'll be hard to challenge yankeedom & the redsox nation..

but then again, anything can happen..look at the Twins and Tigers..
good small market teams

The AL Central doesn't have any large market teams--other than maybe the White Sox and they have always and will always be Chicago's "other" team. So every team in that division has a shot. Unfortunately having the #1 and #2 payrolls in the same division effectively ruins every other team's chances for contending. I'm sure Blue Jays and Orioles fans are ranting about this on their boards as well.

As for moving the Rays to the NL.....won't happen unless the Marlins go to the AL because MLB is not about to give an entire region away to one league. And if the Marlins relocate, the Rays definitely won't switch leagues because of the Braves. Remember the next closest AL teams are Baltimore and Texas...both about 1,000 miles away.

The Yankees and Red Sox are the two best attendance draws the Rays have.
I doubt management wants to lose games at home with those two.
