Now that the Gold Gloves are handed out, and everyone is debating the post season awards...what do you all think about the Silver Slugger Awards?
AL
C: Joe Mauer (no question)
1B: Justin Morneau
2B: Robinson Cano (almost had the batting title)
3B: Alex Rodriguez (I say either him or Glaus)
SS: Derek Jeter
OF: Manny Ramirez
OF: Vladimir Guerrero (another great year)
OF: Jermain Dye (great year...deserves it)
DH: David Ortiz (Hafner, Thome, and Thomas are all close)
NL
C: Brian McCann (the NL version of Joe Mauer)
1B: Ryan Howard (Any other year and it's Albert's)
2B: Chase Utley
3B: Miguel Cabrera (He has it all...power, speed, average...it could go to Aramis Ramirez or David Wright though)
SS: Jose Reyes (avg., speed, power...it's all there)
OF: Alfonso Soriano (see Reyes)
OF: Carlos Beltran (see Soriano/Reyes)
OF: Andrue Jones (power and RBI are still close to the best)
P: Carlos Zambrano (6 HR's as a pitcher....let him play in the field if you need to)
Agree?

I think Wright is gonna take it. East coast bias will push him above Cabrera. I also think Albert's gonna win it at first.

I think you are pretty much right except I think these two should be considered also:
Bill Hall at NL SS--.270/.345/.553, 35 HR, 85 RBI, 101 R, 8 SB
Adam Dunn as NL OF--numbers aren't great, but 40 HR off a .234 avg is slugg at it's best

Pos: Prediction (Opinion as to who it should be)
NL
C: Paul lo Duca (Brian McCann
1B: Ryan Howard (Ryan Howard. Worse season than Fat Al, but you cant get much more "slugger"ish than Ry-how)
2B: Chase Utley (Chase Utley)
3B: Miguel Cabrera (Miguel Cabrera. Sanchez might win it, but i doubt it, and there's no way he should)
SS: Jose Reyes (Bill Hall)
OF: Carlos Beltran (Carlos Beltran)
OF: Alfonso Soriano (Alfonso Soriano)
OF: Matt Holliday (Matt Holliday)
P: Carlos Zambrano (Jeff Suppan)
NL
C: Joe Mauer (Joe Mauer)
1B: Justin Morneau (Justin Morneau)
2B: Robinson Cano (Robinson Cano)
3B: Alex Rodriguez (Alex Rodriguez...i think the media might find a way to blow this and give it to someone else)
SS: Derek Jeter (Derek Jeter)
OF: Manny Ramirez (Manny Ramirez)
OF: Gary Matthews Jr. (Grady Sizemore)
OF: Jermaine Dye (Jermaine Dye)
DH: David Ortiz (Travis Hafner)

I think cabrera'll take it, you could very well be right though. As for Ry-how, i'm just about sure he'll take it. Assuming the voting for this does/did in fact take place before the playoffs.
Every espn show was saying how howard was the mvp, so if he's the mvp, but albert won the GG, the SS, and had the better team lol...then that'd be bad even for sportswriters.

What would be one's argument for Bill Hall over Jose Reyes? In my opinion Hall isn't even 2nd to Reyes. Jimmy Rollins is better.

Well, Hall over Rollins is a no-brainer...Rollins was .334 OBP/.478SLG, Hall was .345/.553. Bill destroyed Jimmy in power, there's no comparison. 35 HR for Hall in 150 fewer AB than Rollins took to hit 25.
Reyes was .354/.487...you'd think that a guy hitting .300 with as many XBH hits as he had would put up a more impressive slugging number, but he did have 647 AB to Hall's 537.
Despite Reyes' OBP and BA advantages, I'd give it to Hall. I don't think that there's much chance he'll actually win it, though.

i agree with all of that.
if we're talking overall shortstop, i'd take reyes (at least i think i would). cus i think hall is very unimpressive defensively, while reyes is outstanding (although like i said, i'm actually not positive that either of those is true)

If LoDuca takes it over McCann, that'd be a travesty. I could swallow any of those other guys taking it, just not Lo Duca.

I like Reyes more too, he's the better offensive player. More speed more of a game changer, but Hall is good too.

I have to admit that I didn't see any Brewers' games this year, and barely knew of Hall's existence until a few weeks ago. From what I've heard and can surmise from the numbers I've seen, your eval of Hall is spot on.
Reyes certainly looks good at SS to me, and he is certainly is more of a threat on the basepaths. His fielding numbers didn't look outstanding to me, but I have to admit that I didn't study them closely. He's so young, too, and has such potential to improve...even just looking at 2006 performance, I think that I would take Reyes, too. But I'd take Hall over Rollins. Even though I wonder if Jimmy is a better fielding SS than both the other two...
