NEW YORK -- Relief pitcher Guillermo Mota was suspended 50 games on Wednesday for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy.
The 33-year-old Mota, who finished the season with the Mets and filed for free agency Tuesday, was 4-3 with a 4.53 ERA this season. In the National League playoffs, he went 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in seven appearances.
His suspension will take effect for the start of the 2007 season.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Mota took "full responsibility" and said he would accept the suspension, saying he hoped to learn from his mistakes.
"I used extremely poor judgment and deserve to be held accountable," Mota said in the statement. "To my teammates and the entire Mets organization, I am sorry. I truly regret what I did and hope that you can forgive me."
"To baseball fans everywhere, I understand that you are disappointed in me, and I don't blame you," he added. "I feel terrible and I promise this is the first and last time that this will happen."

Wow... you mean he actually admitted to it? Well I think that shows responsiblity, unlike others who blame supplements, protein shakes, trainers, and so on

Yeah, I guess when your caught red handed, there's not much else to do. It only makes things worse to say you " unknowingly " used PED'S.

Like what Mota done. At least he isn't a stool pigeon like most of the others.

From Guillermo Mota:
"To my teammates and the entire Mets organization, I am sorry. I truly regret what I did and hope that you can forgive me. To baseball fans everywhere, I understand that you are disappointed in me, and I don't blame you. I feel terrible and I promise this is the first and last time that this will happen. I am determined to prove to you that this was one mistake."
I truly do hope that he is indeed sorry, rather than just saying this. Most importantly, I do hope that this is indeed his first time having used these, rather than merely the first time he was caught using them.
I'm not too sure this will help his free agency status, but we'll see what Mets fans think of this unfortunate situation.

He done wrong, but mitigates it somewhat by being a stand-up guy and taking his medicine without blaming everybody but himself.

Why are we jumping to the conclusion that he used PEDs?

Why are we jumping to the conclusion that he used PEDs?
Maybe he was just smokin' the reefer. If so that's a harsh penalty. Pun intended.

Why are we jumping to the conclusion that he used PEDs?
Because you don't get 50 games for cocaine or weed or speed. You get 50 games for doing the drugs that are on the 50 game suspension list which are PED's.

Steroids aren't just for All-Stars. They're found from the lowest levels of A ball all the way up to the top.

So far what were seeing is a Gargantuan amount of pitchers testing positive for steroids.

Why are we jumping to the conclusion that he used PEDs?
Well, if it was something else, I don't believe the penalty would be an immediate fifty game suspension. If it was Greenies, it would be 25 Games.

His skills have greatly diminished since his Expo days... One has to wonder if he was using back then aswell

Well this could explain his recent injury problems and his failing the physical for the Red Sox in the Beckett deal, not to mention why the Sox went out and signed Tavares and then delt Mota in the Crisp deal.
And any idea when he failed his test? It wouldn't surprise me if this was known while the NLCS was going on.
i think its great that hes taking responsibilty for his actions.. no b12 shots, flaxseed oil, etc... just him making a mistake and apologizing.. and guess what? itll be forgotten about.. why? because he stood up like a man and admitted it and apologized.. no story for the press to cling on.. no speculation.. i seriously think if raffy would have done the same people would have forgiven him... well that and if he never appeared before congress..
