Rumours are flying that the Cubs are seeking permission to hire
DD for president and ceo of the Cubs..reuniting him with fired
Detroit Mgr Alan Trammel, who recently joined Lou Pinella's
staff....
egads, hope this rumour does not bare fruit....DD needs to stay in
Detroit..he's done a great job..and needs to finish it, and win the series..
Detroit, ain't such a baseball desert isle....
then again, the lure of the mystical hapless Cubbies....

DD will be a free-agent GM after the '07 season, so I can't see Mr. Illitch letting him go before that. I hope the Illitch's realize that they cannot let DD go, even after 2007. Give him whatever he wants to stick around and build not just a championship team, but a dynasty. What Dombrowski has done here is nothing short of a miracle. It took some huge cajones to strip a franchise down to it's bare minimum (2003) and build it back up into your image (2006).
BTW, I've never seen this rumor anywhere. Can you cite any sources?

I saw this in one of the Detroit papers...and the memphis paper, ran
a piece on it..I think it was the Freep...on their Tigers web site..
I know his stock is very high now..but how much money does one need ?
heck, I can't say for certain, but DD pretty much has the run of the
Detroit baseball club...would he get a similar gig in Chicago, with the
Tribune media group ? at least in Detroit, he has direct contact with
Pizza Mike...then again, the lure of rebuilding a team like the Cubs, might
be too much of a lure to him..I expect he'll be smart enough to stay
in Detroit...if not, we have some good people behind him..but no one
like DD who can judge talent, engineer trades, and swindle rival GM's
at times...

Hopefully, Mr. Illitch will continue to reward Dombrowski for all he has accomplished thus far. I'm still not happy with how Scotty Bowman, aging as he is, was pushed out at what appeared to be Ken Holland's insistence.

yeah, that was sorta rude..Bowman did a lot for the WINGS, and since
his ' retirement ' the team has lacked that mode, that made them so
deadly..Holland's wings, aren't exactly burning up the NHL these days,
so maybe there is a lesson for the tigers to ponder....
DD needs to stay put--in my opinion...let the cubs find someone else
to dig them outta their years of misery..

Maybe if Ilitch lets DD start calling him "Mike" or even "Mr. Ilitch" instead of that ridiculously awkward "Mr. I", he'll stay. :P

Here's a snippet from CNNSI.com, regarding DD and the Cubs rumor:
"I'm very happy here," Dombrowski said when asked about outside possibilities, particularly the Cubs, his hometown team. "They've treated me very well here. And we have a chance to have a pretty good club for a few years. We're hoping to build on that."
It appears that DD is wanting to stick around and build on what he's accomplished so far here in Detroit. While he hasn't outright said he'll be sticking around after his contract expires, he has hinted at wanting to stay for awhile. DD wasn't too happy about not being able to defend his World Series title in Florida, after the team traded away all their star players from that season. I hope he's here until he decides to retire from the game altogether.

I just heard that Dombrowski just re-upped for 4 years in Detroit.

Yeah, I just saw that. Nice job, Mr. Illitch! Dombrowski will stay at the helm through at least the 2011 season, getting his chance to build a dynasty. This was probably the most important move the Tigers will make all winter, no matter how big of a bat they bring in.
