I was fortunate enough to attend The Staten Island Hall of Fame salute to Bobby Thomson last night with a real good friend of mine who was kind enough to get me in. (You know who you are!). What a night!! One of the most humbliest men I have ever met. Told us he was in the right place at the right time. Seemed totally amazed by the sincere outpouring of adulation for an event that happened 55 years ago. Bobby is now 83 years old but still sharp as a tack. He signed autographs all night, nonstop except when speeches were made and dinner was served. He addressed the sign stealing aspect that is gathering more steam. Bobby said that the Giants were stealing signs. He didn't mention how. He did say unequivocally that when he hit the "Shot Heard 'Round The World" he was so focused on the pitcher that the thought of looking for the "signman" never crossed his mind. He didn't even realize that Ralph Branca had replaced Don Newcombe. He was that intuned to blocking everything out. "Come on you SOB" he said to himself. Durocher had told "Bobby, if you're ever gonna hit one how bout now?" Thomson said to himself, "Is he out of his frekin mind?" Really an incredible night. I told Bobby, that I was here representing my dad who died 3 years ago, a huge NY GIant fan, then an ever bigger SF Giant fan. I told him how happy he had made my dad, as my dad used to talk so proudly of the Giants. The Giants of the PG's he called them. Walked around with a smile all day today. What a night and what a class act!-GMONEY

I can only imagine.....I would suspect that perhaps the best thing about the whole evening was the memories of your father...I don't mean this in a corny way at all...I believe baseball memories are the best. God Bless you and your dad.

Bill Not corny at all and thanks. Would have been wonderful if he could have been there with me as I would have loved it. They of course showed the home run a few times. I was watching Bobby's reaction more than the monitor. I wanted to yell smile but he was just so humble about it. He actually apologized to the Dodgers for jumping on the bases!! Real sportsman and gentleman.

I have been collecting autographs for a few years and my favorite piece is a framed 40x30 of that homerun...autograph cards from Mr. Thomson..Branca, Pafko, Erskine and Snyder....center piece is a story from "Autograph Collectors" magazine. I can only imagine how nice it would be with photos from a night like you had.
