I don't really know how much of an opportunity they have to do it. Id WS MVP Eck's contract up? Who else? Will Mulder and Izzy be gone (I have to say I hope so, but watch them go somewhere else and pitch well)? What about Molina? It seems like there are a lot of guys on this team who just improved their stock, and, frankly, the organization can probably do just fine moneywise without making the playoffs for a couple years.

Also, anybody seen anything about Jim Edmonds' future? He's such a clutch guy, but he just seems to be tailing off a bit every year. He's the kind of guy we'd really miss, but at some point you have to start looking to the future. Also, there's been a bit in the StL press saying that he really promoted unity, but I have got to believe the other OF's might not feel that way.

Well, hopefully I'm wrong on all of this -- except Mulder and Izzy. Thanks, Cards, for the most enjoyable postseason of my life.

At least they're not doing a usual Marlins' fire sale.

They're not gonna firesale the team, the team isn't exactly loaded with high priced players.

I can foresee Belliard leaving, Edmonds leaving (10 million is steep for another year of his services), Mulder for sure, Spiezio doesn't contribute much, Suppan's gonna price himself out of St. Louis after his postseason, Vizcaino's probably gone, and Boras is gonna milk every last penny out of Weaver's postseason heroics so he's gone.

Well they just got lucky with a bunch of guys who are role players and some wiley vetrans. New York's pitching fell apart, Pedro got injured, and someone finally pulled Carlos Beltran off the Cards. I mean Mulder should probably go, keep Supan. Things just fell into place for an amazing run. I mean do you really think that Jeff Supan, Jeff Weaver, Ronnie Belliard, Scott Spezio, Aaron Miles, Juan Encarniacon, Preston Wilson, So Taguci, and Gary Bennet would be difference makers? I say keep the core (Pujols, Carpenter, Yadi, Eckstein, Wainwright, Reyes, Duncan (fix his D though), and get some yougner talent. Rolen's getting old and Edmonds isn't what he used to be. So if you can get younger I say do it.
