The best amateur league in America is the Cape Cod Baseball League.
They use wood bats. An incredible number of MLB players came through the CCBL.
I've been to home games at:
Dennis-Yarmouth Red Sox
Orleans Cardinals
Harwich Mariners
Brewster White Caps
Chatham A's
Hyannis Mets
Cotuit Kettleers
Haven't yet been to:
Falmouth Commodores
Wareham Gateman
Bourne Braves
Admission is $2. Great time.

Have you seen Summer Catch? Thats the first time I had ever heard of it. Seems like the movie can give you a good idea on what it's all like.

I've been to games at all of them, though my team is, always has been, and always will be the Hyannis Mets. Been going to their games since I was five years old. :gt I also like the Y-D Sox, the Chatham A's, and the Brewster Whitecaps. The teams I don't like are the Gatemen (Wareham isn't on the Cape!), Falmouth (my parents' car broke down there once, and I've hated it ever since), and Harwich (my first game was a Mets-Mariners playoff game). Admission was free last time I went to a Hyannis game... maybe they changed it? I didn't make it up this summer.

I think admission is how much you want to put in the donation hat. I've been to CC a billion times yet have never made it to a CCL game, maybe next year.

There is a 2005 list of Major Leaguers linked off of http://www.capecodbaseball.org/ B
My team is Brewster, but i've been to orleans, chatham, harwich, y-d, hyannis, and wareham and the only admission is donations.
It really is top quality free baseball.

The first time I ever went was a Hyannis-Wareham game, which Hyannis won 9-0. A young Hyannis outfielder named Jason Lane hit a three-run homer in the second inning, leading to an early departure by Wareham's starter, a young pitcher named Barry Zito. I don't remember anything else, but I definitely remember Lane's homer off of Zito. Man, I miss that league. I'll try and go to a few games when I go up next summer.

There aren't really any stadiums, just diamonds, usually school fields.

For info on the Cape League go to capecodbaseball.org. Over 1000 MBL players played in the CCBL. In 2007 about 198 MLB roster players are CCBL alumni. Wooden bats, great pitching and hitting, free admission, scouts galore and outstanding players make this a fun baseball take. No TV breaks, hard play make for fast games, 2 hours 20 minute average game time. MLB stars : Zito,Bagwell, Kent,Lowell,Erstad,Roberts,Biggio,Casey,Ventura,Va ritek, Snow,Thomas,Munson,Utley,Burrell,Burnitz,Salmon,No mar........

Ive been to a couple of games (seeing that we (my family and i) found it last year and im only 14) and the best game by far was the all-star game. If you get there early enough you can watch them take b-p and see the homerun derby. It is great fun and good quality baseball.

If you like the Cape League, you'll love Touching the Game. It gives the whole history and flavor of the league through the eyes of past and present players like Todd Helton, Sean Casey and Lance Berkman. Some of the players who were in the league when it came out are just now making it to the majors.

I've been to the Cape the last two years, primarily to see the Cape League. I have seen the following teams at home,
Hyannis Mets
Yarmouth-Dennis RedSox
Chatham A's
Harwich Mariners
Bourne Braves
Cotuit Kettelers
Orleans Cardinals
The level of play is about Single A but these kids really bust their butts out there and the crowds are really into it. It truely is baseball the way it should be. If you are a baseball nut like me I highly recommend going to the Cape to watch. You could even go to the beach, bike ride or find numerous other ways to kill time between games!

Santa Barbara Foresters field a great team every summer. That's the California Collegiate league. Wood bats. The Foresters won the National Championship again this year in Wichita, KS.
