I think this is terrible
If Yankee fans would stop putting this team down
If they wank next year it's CASHman to talk to
Isn't this funny that the Gen Manager of a team they call Wanks has a name with the word CASH in it

"CA$H" man would describe what the Yanks do, which is spend.
I support a separate thread for Hank Parks' various musings.
I have no idea what a "Wankee" is.

Kinda like Jim Albright's Musings, I like it. Except far less informative and comprehendable.

I've heard of Bankee$ and Spankees myself. I think that the MFY thing was a SoSH term that was largely critical of the team. I figure it won't take a genius to figure out what it means, though I'd prefer people not repeat its meaning here.
If the thread starter can explain what a "Wan" or "Wankee" is, I'd appreciate this. :)

yankee fans that bash or boo the yankees are not Yankee fans.
I did not boo A-rod all season, I just cheered him on hoping he would turn around. I wouldn't mind having him back for next year.
The only yankee I kind of booed was Johnny Damon, well that was like at 1st, cause I didnt like him, I didn't want him to be a yankee.

Well, the problem with that is that people are then being questioned on their "fandom". That's one of those silly terms I've heard, but it basically means, "How much of a fan (or what type of fan) are you?
If some Mets or Red Sox fans say they don't hate Jeter, some may say, "Hey, he's not our kind of [team name] fan". Pretty silly, but happens.
I won't question people's "fandom", but I will say that people shouldn't be so spoiled. Even when I go out and have fun playing sports (presuming you consider billiards a sport (hey, it's on ESPN, so don't laugh)), if someone messes up a shot, we don't boo; we encourage. I just think that Yankee fans have taken a perspective very different from what I'd do.
As to Damon, I'd felt the same way when Clemens came aboard. It wasn't until Game 4 of the 1999 WS where he'd nailed the win that he'd finally gotten cheered. That he'd cost us our loveable ace in Boomer, only made him look less pleasant, in addition to his Red Sox "from their farm" heritage. His having hit Yankee players during games didn't exactly endear him to many Yankee fans either.

yea, i like the mets to lol, only because my dad is a fan of the mets, so when the mets dont play the yankees, I cheer for them, but when they play the Yankees, I cheer for the yankees. but I am not a mets fan, I just cheer for them when they dont play the yankees.
here we go! game 4 of this years WS! LETS GO TIGERS!

Hey, Billiards is a sport. Sort of, i guess, i think, well maybe !!! They show Poker every day on ESPN and if poker is a sport then im Howard Hughes long lost son !! They show darts and even showed the world championship of dominos for a few days !! Whats the world coming to ??
All kidding aside im sick to death of seeing poker on tv and i work in a casino as a dealer, not poker though. You got kids watching this stuff and trying to emulate these guys. Nice eh ?
Actually to play even half way good pool you got to have good hand eye co-ordination and be able to look 6-7 shots ahead. Thats if you play seriously.
Im not arguing with you Mattingly, just having a little fun.

I came up with Wankees for describing people who wear Yankees branded merchandise but don't give a toss about baseball (you get a lot of those here).

Ahh! I get it, I've always needed a term for people like that! Thank you! There very common around these parts. I usually just ask exactly how many championships the Yankees have won, or to name 5 actual Yankees, If they don't know, then there a Wankee!(I assume you got the W from
wanna-be, like the term "wangster" to discribe a wanna be "gangster")

I think wankee derives from wanker which is slang in the UK for something I won't mention on this forum. It's 5am and I'm not exactly lucid but.....
On another note, Gary Sheffield might be described as Crankee, no?

Oh!
Lol, most teams get plenty of fans that just wear team gear just for the sake of it and pretend to be a fan and know nothing of the team. Yankees, obviously, have the most of those type of fans since they're so popular due to all the winning in their history, but every club of every sports deals with these "wannabe" fans.

Also the fact that all the rappers from NYC who have a big influence on pop culture where yankee stuff, making other people want to wear it too.

Yeah, that's pretty much the deal here. The thing is you'll see loads of Yankees merchandise is sports stores here but no other team merchandise at all (except one time I saw a Red Sox cap, just a fluke I think) or anything that has any relation to the sport of baseball.

Living in a part of the world where "wank" has a very precise and rude meaning (which I was unaware of before moving here), I would not like to see this word or versions of it catch on. I'd feel the same if I were not a Yankees fan. I can see what the originator's driving at, and it's worthy of a descriptive term. Just, please, not this one.

I'm closing this thread sometime on Wednesday. It's not much about the Yanks at all, unless you count some slang for a lockerroom term that you'd have to go look in the "alternative" dictionaries to find out about. I still have no idea why the Yanks are called this.
Anyway, here's towards a great 2007 and excellent Yankee baseball games! :D
