Id like your opinions on a idea I have to resolve the salary cap/revenue sharing problem that has MLB locked in what amounts to a class struggle resulting in fans in small markets abandoning the sport.

Since the players union refuses to accept a salary cap and big market owners are willing to indulge, lets work a parity penalty into the revenue sharing.

Heres the basics:

1. Take the salary difference between the two teams playing and award a corresponding percentage of the gate to the cheaper team.

2. Require these revenues to be paid out as signing or performance bonuses to players.

3. Include national television revenue in this as well but with requirements to expand the cheaper teams market with the revenue.

This might not produce true parity, but it could solve the problem of big talents gravitating to big markets and small market fans losing interest alltogether.

how about the money that small market teams collect from revenue sharing can't go into the owners pocket. than they can spend money signing free agents and their high draft picks

How about having owners who are worth hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars and who get stadiums for free to actually invest in their product?

right on

people might hate stienbrenner but when the new yankees stadium is 1.02 billion and he is paying for 800 million out of his own pocket you sort of have to tip your hat to him.

marlins fans and twinkies fans always complain about not getting a new stadium...that's because the owners wants the city to pay for the majority of the cost
