Cleveland Indians acquire All-Star Catcher from the Red Sox
At a press conference on Thursday, the Cleveland Indians announced that they acquired veteran catcher Jason Varitek from the Boston Red Sox, in return, the Red Sox obtained catcher Ryan Garko and pitcher Adam Miller.
''Jason's acquisition is very important to us, his acquisition solves the important hole in our lineup, we hope that Jason adapts quickly to our team philosophy and to our pitching staff. We also hope he helps our young pitchers adapt to the big leagues'' commented Cleveland Indians general manager Chuck Ray on the acquisition of Varitek.
Varitek will hereby be the starting catcher for the Cleveland squad, moving former catcher Victor Martinez to an easier position, first base.
Varitek will fill the 6th spot in the lineup behind Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez.
Cleveland's next move might to be filling one of their numerous holes:
''Even though filling an important piece of the puzzle, we still have numerous holes to fill, notebly our number 5 starting pitcher, our starting left fielder, third baseman, shortstop and second baseman, also attempting to find a ''younger'' solution to the closer's role'' said Cleveland general manger Chuck Ray

Indians acquire Two Vets for Prospects
At a press conference on Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians announced that they acquired veteran infidelder Geoff Blum and outfielder Brian Giles, thus giving up prospects Andy Marte and Brad Snyder to the San Diego Padres.
“Brian’s acquisition is very important to us, we filled our need for a power-hitting outfielder with his acquisition and we hope he will mentor our young oufielders and provibe pop to our sometimes weak offense” commented Cleveland GM Chuck Ray
Giles will fill the number 3 spot in the lineup behind CF Grady Sizemore and LF Jason Michaels, thus moving former 3B Casey Blake back to his original position where he played over 325 Games from 1999 to 2004.
“Once again, even though filling a very important hole through the trade market, we still have to address numerous needs like our closer, our no.5 starting pitcher, our second baseman and shortstop” replied Cleveland GM Chuck Ray to reporter Lin Martel’s question.

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians signed P Damaso Marte and OF Frank Catalanotto.
"Signing Damaso and Frank is a great step forward in our plan to bring a championship back to Cleveland." said Cleveland GM Chuck Ray
Damaso Marte will bring a veteran and reliable arm to the bullpen while Catalanotto will fill the Outfield.
"Frank is expected to get a fair bit of playing time in the Outfield and at the DH slot. Damaso will be used in the 8th inning as one of our setup men."

Indians hire Beane
Cleveland, Ohio -- At a press conference today, the Cleveland Indians announced the hiring of veteran baseball man Billy Beane as their assistant general manager and president of baseball operations.
Beane is mostly known for being the Oakland Athletics' GM, from 1997 to 2006, when he was fired and replaced by a computer.
"Billy will bring extremely significant knowledge to the organisation and guide our young GM," said Larry Dolan, Cleveland Indians' Owner.
